At least it is a prequel or a sequel.
Wowzors!
Let's just hope it doesn't star Shia LaBeouf and the replicants don't end up with crystal skulls or similar
meh, after years of wanting to see the original I was severely disappointed when I did....
I think I've been spoiled by newer Sci-fi....
/awaits the flames ;)
I'm dreading this.
I love Blade Runner. Yes it is flawed, but it is a terrific film imo. I also think Scott (Ridley, not Tony!) is a great director. It will be interesting to see how 'Prometheus' turns out.
After the disaster (again, imo) that was Avatar, I can't help feeling this will be stuff full of nonsense 3D effects, with air cars, and replicants doing 'robot-y' things. Maybe it will be about the replicants Deckard was after, and the battles they were involved in...
I fear for the reputation of Ridley and the Blade Runner name. However, the man is no fool, and as he originally direct Blade Runner, I'm sure he is aware of all this.
I'll be interested to see what way they take it, they can only take "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?" so far as a base idea. They wont get Ford back, but i really hope they stick to the practical effects and real effects as much as possible.
I still think Blade Runner was ok (nothing like the book though) but the Westwood studios game was better than the film.
The original is an incredible film, and in fact requires repeat viewings (and time) to appreciate. I can fully understand someone seeing it for the first time now and being underwhelmed, but it's one of those rare films that seeps under your skin and gets better over time.
I'm intrigued by a prequel / sequel. Personally I think Ridley has lost his touch a bit (since Gladiator) but I'll definitely see this. I don't understand why people are against remakes / updates - if it doesn't appeal, just don't see it.
I remember reading a sequel to 'Do Androids...' about 10 years ago, but I think it was written by someone as an honour to Philip K Dick, rather than actually by him. Maybe they'll base it on that...
edit: Just had a look on Amazon and it was Bladerunner 2: Edge of Human by KW Jeter. It was OK, in a 'meh' kind of way... Oh, and it was commissioned by Orion, so possibly looking at a film sequel, rather than an altruistic need to finish the story...
Ive read other stuff by Jeter and he aint no Dick :( If it does get based on that I also fear for it.
Have you all seen the youtube documentary by the special effects man of Blade Runner ? Doug Trumbull ?? Its very well worth a view.
Although I don't see the need for a prequel/sequel/whateveritis, I'll reserve judgement until I've seen it. I wonder how many versions we'll get this time?
Should be good but ...
:undecided
Love the soundtrack on the original and the craziness of the replicants
Love the original. Will be interesting to see how sequel stands up to it.
