Christopher Brookmyre - A recommendation

I read a fair bit, cant get to sleep at night unless I have burned a couple of chapters or so, hate waiting with a passion, for anything, unless I have a book to hand (now Kindle wooo). So, on that note and to christen the new section with a new thread, I would like to recommend an author.

Christopher Brookmyre - A Scottish lad who appears to be around mid 30's or so (going by his gaming knowledge) with a flair for the faintly ridiculous and a real art at taking the mickey in his writing style. He has a few mainstay characters that show up now and then throughout books and a 2-3 protagonists with their own series. His books may start in Scotland or have Scottish central characters but they go all round the world in the tales he tells and keep you entertained and guessing while they do.

His themes have ranged from religion, underhanded politics, sex (some classic themes to be sure) to boy bands (doesnt go well for them), magicians, con artists, hit men, and on one occasion so far, the tearing of reality on a school trip.

I don't want to go too far into any of his works (around 13 books so far) except to say that all of them are standalone books in their own right, but reading them in order does provide some coherence in some series of characters but isnt essential.

For some light, not too serious and highly entertaining, occasionally downright ludicrous story telling, this guy rates very highly on my list indeed.

For any opinions on this author, please post below, but for comparisons etc, can we start new threads discussing that particular authors merits :)

Got them all, read them all. Really great author. His endings are pretty outlandish usually, most of the time everything blows up :)

Haven't read all of his works, prolly 7 or 8. think my fave was Quite Ugly One Morning. Might Kindle some more soon :-)

Have read a few of his, love his sense of humour. Always meant to grab a few more.
