Spooks: new series.. what's changed?
Lo people
Spooks latest series.. within 3 or 4 minutes my favourite series was making me a tad tense.. it felt... american.
The new lass had too much cleavage out, the lippy was too red, the camera angles all CSI and it took 15 minutes to fall back into the Harry Pearce school of proper Spooks.
It wasn't bad by the end of the first episode but it was far from good.
And it WASN'T in HD on Iplayer ! What's THAT all about?
Dr Who is in HD.. and it looks divine. So why not Spooks?
Re: Spooks: new series.. what's changed?
Always loved spooks. Know what you mean about the start, soon feel back into it though. Apparently the last series :( Wish they\'d done more but, tbh it\'s pace and \'tightness\', can\'t think of a better word, was one of it\'s greatest strengths.

I ranted about that too, the antiques bloody roadshow got HD but spooks didnt.
Reserving judgement on the series so far - it's too early to tell. It is the last and I'm sad to see it go, but that's S10 now - a good run by anyone's standards.
Re: Spooks: new series.. what's changed?
Thanks for the reminder zak.
Another spooks fan.
Re: Spooks: new series.. what's changed?
thing is... I was pee'd off by the weird lack of Spook-ness and yet it DID come back.... part way through.
Can anyone place their finger in what was different? WAS it the camera angles? Or a change in acting style?
I hate it when I can't see what I'm ... seeing, kinda thing.
Something changed
Re: Spooks: new series.. what's changed?
It all just seemed a bit... well, obvious to me... no subtlety and no twists.
semi-spoilers? ish...
From the start we knew the US guy was a baddie, we knew the 'new guy' was going to end up blowing up that laptop (just dismantle it surely? I'm not 5 but I wouldnt just turn it on), we knew Harry had a love interest with the mole... I dont think we learnt anything after the first 10 minutes... everything obvious was just confirmed throughout the episode.
Also, dont know if it's been done deliberately but the new IT/field agent bloke is completely unlikeable... was hoping he'd be killed off in the first episode to be replaced by someone Tom/Adam-esque, fingers crossed for episode 2.
Re: Spooks: new series.. what's changed?
The first series of Spooks was awesome, all claustrophobic and heads dipped in deep fat fryers. It went downhill a little from there, but then there was a fantastic scene in the first episode of the previous series, when Harry visited the former Home Secretary, which defined everything the series should have been. Not watched the new one yet and not sure I want to...
Re: Spooks: new series.. what's changed?
This was rumoured to be the last season too, has anyone heard the same rumour ?
Re: Spooks: new series.. what's changed?
yup... tis the last one apparently
Dunno WHY Tom showed up at the last.... always leave the door open for a spin off I guess?
Either way.. it was so low in comparison to all previous series I forgot to watch the final episode for 2 weeks!
Re: Spooks: new series.. what's changed?
Yeah, it was a bit of a weak finish to what was a good show, I feel it deserved better
Re: Spooks: new series.. what's changed?
Sorry, but I rather liked it. I didn't feel the ending was weak at all; in fact between Tom showing back up, and the death of Ruth followed by Harry's visit to the house she was going to buy, and the final scene affirming that as she'd said, that sort of life wasn't meant for them (Harry back answering the same panicked phone call), I thought it very poignantly handled.

Complaining about that should be a criminal offence!
Re: Spooks: new series.. what's changed?
It was short. 6 episodes!?...
I think Harry-Ruth will they wont they angle has been going on for so long that the audience needed some conclusion to it.
