Top Gear USA
So this is on iPlayer now. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...USA_Episode_1/
God, it's awful, cheesier than their food, the presenters are painfully boring like most of the show. A bevvy of Lambos, a Dodge Viper, Buzz Aldrin, a bloody attack helicopter and they couldn't make an entertaining show out of it. Even spending all the money that they have, it somehow feels cheap too.
Seems like they copied all the wrong bits, the table made of an engine, filmed in a warehouse(with fake windows, wut?).
Awful, just awful.

Re: Top Gear USA
It gets better
It's not a replacement for the UK version, just a more US orientated one.
At least Tanner Faust has some legit racing experience (like Sabine on the German show) compared to the UK presenters

Re: Top Gear USA
It certainly does get better, the second series is much improved. That being said it still isn't (and likely never will be) as good as UK Top Gear (original and best). It is very geared towards the American market which is probably why it doesn't work that well over here.
Don't mind Tanner Foust though, he gets some good segments in two series.

Re: Top Gear USA
Its got that american feel "this is so cool and this car is cool and everything is cool"
unlike the UK one
"I cant believe we get paid to do this, result!" kind of feel
Its the sarcasm and cheap shots that make the UK show, could almost take the cars out of the show (Top gear does Homes Under The Hammer anyone?).

No it doesn't :(
It's all the set and titles of Top Gear but in a life-suckingly dull way with presenters who've had their personalities carefully removed via surgery.
I tried, very hard, to like it but it's utterly moronic*
* in a non entertaining fashion. No claims that top gear UK isn't moronic, but it's fun

start makes it look good....then it just starts to tick me off...:( shame!

Re: Top Gear USA
Somethings cross the pond well (in either direction) and some things ont, this was probably one of those that didn't travel so well, different ethos in the production/presenting team was probably partly to blame, i don't think it's bad per-say, it's just that we had the UK one to compare it to ! - the americans probably wouldn't get half the humour in the uk version, so i guess it's subjective

Re: Top Gear USA
They've ported all the concepts and filming styles direct from the UK one as if that is what the majority of people watch top gear for.
Most people want to watch Jeremy Clarkson attempt to fit a bolt using a hammer. By their own admission, it's more like 'Last of the Summer Gear' than a car show.

Re: Top Gear USA
It's shockingly bad compared to the UK version!
-
Re: Top Gear USA
There really is no replacement for Clarkson, Hammond and May imo.

Re: Top Gear USA
Some people will like it, some not. I like it and agree it gets better as they drop star in a car and just do challenges. Its not top gear UK but they did season 3 and 4 and is now getting ready to air season 5 in the time they last aired top gear UK to this weekend. Its been so long since I have seen a new UK version I thought it had been cancelled.

Re: Top Gear USA
Just like the UK version....but wearing a condom!! :)

Re: Top Gear USA
Watched a few seasons of this and honestly it hurts to watch anymore, especially when they do the exact same gags/stunts as the UK version!
