Apparently he threatened to walk if they insisted on a PG13 so they agreed a compromise to film and edit PG13 and R rated versions of the whole thing and then decide which to release when they've watched the finished articles. So chances are they will do two versions at the cinema, either that or the real version will be on the DVD/BD.
Not an unknown way to settle disagreements in the movie industry, Tony Scott did the same with True Romance when he wanted a different ending and Tarantino didn't agree, although after seeing it he agreed it was better suited to the audience (I prefer the original ending but it's not very Hollywood).
Is Gieger involved in this ?

According to wikipedia he is
Thing is if they make it 13 then there are by dropping the age limit more people that can go and see it, and then they can also make toys and all the other marketting bollocks that goes along with it..
Its not about making films 18+ people want to see, its about making money, that means all the rest of the crap that comes with it...
Problem is when you make an R-rated film these days even if it's awesome nobody goes to see it, hence the PG-13 ratings almost across the board.
Watchmen flopped at the box office despite the huge hype and fan boy love and that had a real hard marketing push to go with it too. Basically unless it's horror or a Hangover sequel R-rated stuff just doesn't pull box office numbers, adults are too busy doing anything but paying silly money to go to the cinema, unless they're taking the kids.
Nothing says a PG-13 rated movie categorically has to be bad though, Dark Knight proved that one. It's nice to see Scott still has the sway to demand his own cut despite the studios agenda though and as someone that hated the first AvP movie for its half-arsedness I really hope an R-rated cut is the one we see. But that said, barring the chest burster and a couple of other quick moments you could probably pass Alien as a 15/12A now easily with minimal cuts, the goal posts for what's acceptable within certain ratings has shifted dramatically since the late seventies and apart from John Hurts famous moment it's essentially a rather long, very well made haunted house flick.
I dont get the impression this is going to be a mono vs mono alien thing any way - more suspense with the chill factor and maybe a surprise or two ( but thats just from trailer )
I wish theyd make trailers that were complete curveballs to underplay things and make you guess ,rather than quick cuts and flashes of the of the action that reveal too much and just numb u 2 turn you off.
This trailer is good , but its still too focused on action rather than something to make us wonder like a revealing line.

Yeah I get the same impression and to be honest I'm more than ok with that kind of movie given the corporate conspiracy/space jockey set up. AvP Requiem went waaay over the top with the violence and references because people clamoured for another R-rated Aliens when in my opinion what makes the first two films in the franchise the best isn't the shock and gore.
It's the script, the great direction and the tension leading up to those moments. Just that motion sensor from Aliens beeping away with some artful editing puts me on the edge of my seat so much more effectively than pregnant women giving birth to nests of chest bursters did :/
I wonder how the Alien would do against a Moose??
Depends how fast he was moving cat.
Very good film overall (8/10 for me) Glad we saw it at the Waterloo IMAX (biggest screen in the UK) - highly recommend it for those that have not been.
Wont mention anything specific about it for those that have not seen it yet. Some have criticised it, some fair some not imo. I think people really need to see it themselves and concentrate as allot of the criticism appears to be from people who didn't pay attention, or grasp the premise of this film (or maybe had preconceived ideas on it)
I saw it on Friday and although it wasn't a bad film it was abit disappointing over all imo
Alien/Aliens have been my favourite horror/action sci-fi horror since i first watched them, the franchise died after than IMO as alien 3 was terrible (stupid annoying cgi etc) and alien 4 is a bit worse than that. Prometheus does look good and it would be nice to see a prequel but it seems as though from the trailer its very much the same as alien but im going in with an open mind :).
Should be seeing it on the 13th, always to busy here when its the first orange wednesday (refuse to pay £11 a ticket!). Apparently its filmed in 3D, anyone seen it in 3D? Verdict?
