    Re: Prometheus (Ridley Scott)

I took the Xenomorph at the end not to necessarily be the first of the species but more an example of what happens when an engineer is infected by something spawned from that black biological weapon, hence their hasty evacuation in the "security tapes". I assume at some point an outbreak of something similar occured on the engineers transporter ship that was found on LV-426 in Aliens and the resulting Xenomorphs are what laid the eggs that were found with it. Either that or at some point the Engineers grew and harvested Xenomorphs as a weapon and the ship on LV-426 was transporting eggs, not bio-gunk that got loose.

For as many questions as it answered and as good as Prometheus was, it's certainly left as many questions behind it as there were before, if not more! :-/

    Re: Prometheus (Ridley Scott)

The Xenomorph Aliens probably did exist thousand of years before the events of the movie, as it is indirectly inclined by the wall carvings in the cave portraying a Xenomorph queen:

And that Xenomorph bursting out from the Engineer at the end of the Prometheus, is just another version of the Xenomorphs just like the dog / cow Xenomorph in Alien 3.
As this doesn't look like the typical Alien:

And this is what that mutated guy Fifeld (the geologist who attacked the crew) was supposed to look like in the early cuts of the film:

    Way cooler!!

However I'm not sure if the hologram engineers in the caves were being chased by Xenomorphs. They were probably being chased by other infected Engineers as we see the decapitated head taken back to the spaceship was infected by the black go somehow, so he was probably chasing them and got decapitated by the door in the process.
But later on the 2 geologists find those space jockey bodies piled up and they mention that they seem to have exploded from the inside, (The head in the lab also exploded in the spaceship when they revived it), so we have more confusion as to what happened.

The story is a mess basically.

Do we think a directors cut will fix all of this? Surely Scott wants people to know exactly what the hell he was trying to do?

    Re: Prometheus (Ridley Scott)

Good shout on the wall carving, I'd completely forgotten about that! I let the difference in appearance of the Xenomorph at the end of Prometheus compared with the ones seen in earlier movies go tbh, as it's always been part of the mythos that at some point during gestation they seem to take on some characteristics of the host. Too many questions left unanswered though!

I thought the theatrical cut WAS the directors cut? It was my understanding that Scott and the studio came to blows over the proposed PG-13 rating and the agreement was that he was to edit his version and a tamer, more box office friendly version and that his cut eventually won the financial coin toss? Hence it's R/15 rating?

I'm another one who found the story line a total mess. Explained nothing, left everything to the imagination and ultimately mugged me of my time and money only to force me to spend more money and time to watch the next film to make sense of -all- of it.

    Not impressed at all.

Should have been amazing, but just wasn't. Really disappointed. I thought the cast did a good job with what they'd been given though. Shame it was just.... stupid.

    Re: Prometheus (Ridley Scott)

So, basically what we learned from Prometheus so far, is that running around in alien planets and caves, there is a pretty high chance that you'll get mouth raped by some alien xenomorph or worm on steroids!

Also the script writer ran out of ideas at some point and decided to copy the black oil from the X-Files!

    Re: Prometheus (Ridley Scott)

The story was a mess TBH as was the fact that it seemed to be the most shoddily planned first contact mission ever. Health and safety protocols during a first contact mission - never!! Lets just poke around and get destroyed then!!

The whole part about us and the space jockeys having the same genetic code?? LOLWTF?? Did they run out of budget for a scientific advisor for the movie??

Also, the engineer seemed rather grumpy when he was awoken.

The other thing is that the engineers seemed to be on good terms with humanity thousands of years ago. This is the reason why the ancient paintings and texts were inviting humans to visit them.

However, supposedly something happened in the last two thousand years which change this.

I saw this on the Alien Species Wiki:

    http://www.movies.com/movie-news/rid...interview/8232

"Movies.com: You throw religion and spirituality into the equation for Prometheus, though, and it almost acts as a hand grenade. We had heard it was scripted that the Engineers were targeting our planet for destruction because we had crucified one of their representatives, and that Jesus Christ might have been an alien. Was that ever considered?

RS: We definitely did, and then we thought it was a little too on the nose. But if you look at it as an “our children are misbehaving down there” scenario, there are moments where it looks like we’ve gone out of control, running around with armor and skirts, which of course would be the Roman Empire. And they were given a long run. A thousand years before their disintegration actually started to happen. And you can say, “Lets’ send down one more of our emissaries to see if he can stop it. Guess what? They crucified him."

    Re: Prometheus (Ridley Scott)

Such a disappointment this movie, drab, banal, the epitome of pretentious. The start of the movie looked so promising and that's it. Of course it looks good and is well acted but it's such a rip off. Not alas of anyone else's work - just of the money it cost me to go and see it.
You can always tell when you're being ripped off by a movie when it makes these oblique references but doesn't follow through. The only hope is that Mr Scott thought that there shouldn't be a follow up to Alien and thought "what the heck it's only the movie I'll grab the money and send it in".

Just finished watching it. And, I am very disappointed. The movie was way overhyped. And imdb gave it 7.5 ... should be 5 more like!

The initial setting was good. Then, the crew got killed rather quick and the ending was just a mess. And, I hate 2 hour movies which leave a cliffhangar. This aint HALO goddammit!

I would advise evryone to watch EVENT HORIZON rather than this. Now, that was along simialr lines but a much better movie!
