Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Just to add to the already humongous list:
For horror, I'd love to add Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, it was really screwed up, and as I hadn't watched the Grudge or the Ring at that time etc, I was scared as hell watching it. I couldn't stop watching it either though as I wanted to find out what happens. Was about 16 at that time or something.
K-On! is quite loveable as a slice of life/comedy anime too and I really liked their songs. It's not so memorable though but just something fun to watch when you have some time to spare.
You can add High School of the Dead, Rosario to Vampire (love the songs by Nana Mizuki!) and Sekirei to ecchi too.
I think most of my all time favourites are already on the list. I'm sure there are others but they're on my external HDD and I'm too lazy to plug it in. :P
Just checking my super old crunchyroll account:
- Vampire Knight (although it's a shoujo anime I loved it)
- Chaos;Head: a weird anime, similar to Stein's Gate but also quite different.
- Kurozuka: a very action/graphic/bloody anime set in ancient/samurai/medieval times (18+)
- H2O - Footprints in the Sand: slice of life anime that touched me
- Mmenosyne OVA: another action/graphic/bloody anime set in modern/future times (18+)
- Shigofumi: can't remember much about it but it's also on my fav list lol.
- Gundam Seed (Destiny too: How can you have a list without the invincible Jesus Yamato?
- Gundam 00: Who doesn't love "trans-am!!!!!"?!
Films:
- 5 Centimeters Per Second: very light hearted but touching

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Ulti, Chaos Head is part 1 of Stein's Gate. Set in the same universe but years before Stein's Gate.

Have put a dot in front of anime with HQ graphics, which is basically anime with good looking graphics. Erm.. how do I describe it :

Arigatou gozaimasu!
Ah, I wish they was £25 each, have you been looking at Figma or Nendoroids, they hover around that price. If you ever do purchase any, try to avoid buying from China since they pretty much always 99% fake hence the cheap price, unless you don't mind that. On a other note Dakimakura's from China are ok, they cost about £20 or so and not like £90 for the legit versions. AmiAmi and Hobby Link Japan do sales every so often where you can pick up figures that are 75% off their price, but you have to be quick, since they sell out in a flash.
I also recommend visiting Hobby Frontier, their prices are always £10-15 more then AmiAmi but their customer service is the best. AmiAmi has the cheaper figures, they always 15/20% off but their customer service is good, but not as personal as the previous retailer. Hobby Link Japan are the middle ground. Their prices are higher then AmiAmi but their customer service is more "forgiving" when you need a little extra time to pay for figures.
The figures in the photos of mine range from as cheap as £35 to £108 for the real expensive ones, for example, the Hyakka Ryoran Samurai Girls all cost £100 each. I like to think of them as gold assets, since the resale value only goes up.
Ah insane ain't it, only reason I started this hobby because one late night, I watched Hatsune Miku Live and wanted a figure of her really badly, so since then, it's snow balled.
So, here is some Anime that I would recommend to people.
Hyakka Ryōran Samurai Girls should be added to the Ecchi list, one of my favourite Animes, but it does have a very different drawing style to the art.
I would also recommend people watch Crest of the Stars and then Banner of the Stars, it's a great Space Opera, it has 3 seasons with 2 movies.
Strawberry Panic is 26 episodes of Yuri fun, there is also Maria-Sama, that went on 4 seasons, finally! I would recommend Aria (Animation, Natural and Origination) The story line for the last two are really good, don't expect any action or anything, it's a slow Anime but with good characters and story line, both end very well.
Just about to finish Ikkitousen the first season, that's been fun.

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Not a huge anime fan, most of it annoys me. However, I have been enjoying a few series'. Sakamichi no appolon has been really good thus far, I only got into it as it's by the Cowboy Bebop director and again has Yoko Kanno on the soundtrack.

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Here's a couple for the sci fi list
starship operators http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQo1i_4iWmM
Outlaw star http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCccmIFG1ms (not the best of trailers)
this one is older very noticeable from the artwork but I still like it.
not a sci fi, title sounds like porn but it's not
XXXHOLiC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwZiOWAO0k0
I'm not sure if this is ecchi, slice of life or fantasy, Japanese school kid who can see spirits and other supernatural things, he meets a witch who sells wishes, but the wishes give people exactly what they ask for, not necessarily want and generally come with a bitter sweet cost.

It's probably best described as a supernatural comedy in my opinion. It's not exactly serious even when it covers slightly deeper elements. XXXHolic also crosses over into tsubasa chronicles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RI0eMv2ig9o) which also crosses into chobits (clamp does this crossover thing a fair bit). Tsubasa chronicles is pretty good in my opinion too.
I'd like to add in rozen maiden to the list, supernatural slice of life. Living dolls, want to become 'alice'. Bit of fighting, comedy, slice of life but works well in my opinion.
I'll have a dig through my collection for other suggestions later, might take a while lol...

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Ok, some more recommendations
Gosick - think mystery drama, slice of life, set in 'world war 2' period but not world war 2.
Simoun - slice of life, mystery, fighting, flying ships.
Gundam Unicorn (slowly being released lol) - its gundam based around the unicorn model, it's 6 OVA's rather than a series though
Strike Witches - magical flying female soldiers fighting not from earth enemies
Sky Girls - basically the same as strike witches but using flying exoskeletons
Black Lagoon - surprised this isn't mentioned... black comedy with lots of guns
Zoids - 'animal' based mecha series, my personal fav is genesis (5th series)
-
Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Tnx guys, will update shortly
-
Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Another - Horror, ghost (very dark and feels like a film with pacing and story)
Brave 10 - skilled fighters (all different styles and weapons) set in feudal Japan times
High School DxD - Angel, Demons and Falling Angels fighting against each other (nudity but no actual sex)
Hunter x Hunter - Remake of the old series. Didn't see it first time, loving it. Had to read all the manga once I got up-to-date with the anime
Kore wa Zombie desu ka - Zombie, Necromancers, Vampires and Mages in a modern setting with a bit of comedy (not seen the second season yet)
Occult Academy - strange one with both witchcraft and time travel from the future
Nicked from the other thread.

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Right, it's been summer holidays for me for about 2 weeks and a bit now. Time to watch some anime! Nisemonogatari and Mirai Nikki (sp? Future Diary) are gonna be defo watches for me. Might have to watch Bakemonogatari again too as I don't remember what happened in it.
I may check out some more mainstream/longer ones such as Fate Zero and Guilty Crown as well as return to Bakuman. I can't spend too much of my time watching anime though, tons of things that I need to do! Oh don't I miss first year uni and all those years before that!
Awesome AMV (action + ecchi - NSFW):

After watching the last 4 episodes of Bakemonogatari again, I can't believe that I didn't finish it!
Next, Nisemonogatari :D Then Mirai Nikki. I'm sure I'll like Mirai Nikki, but I don't think it'll beat Bakemonogatari for me :P
Tasogare Otome x Amnesia's last episode also aired today, so it should be subbed and uploaded for me to watch tomorrow. :D I think a bittersweet ending is unavoidable though. :(
-
Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Just as I guessed, the last episode of Tasogare Otome x Amnesia is such a bittersweet ending. It's very, very touching. At the beginning I thought I had lost some of my emotions as I could understand the characters, but couldn't feel their feelings. But as I went through it, I was very moved by the scene. It's so simple and inevitable, but somehow, the feelings are translated fully onto the viewer.
The ending is quite funny though, not sure why they decided to do that - probably to please the crowd?
A funny way to describe the last ep (from MAL dadihu): "they make us cry then they say "hey, i was just trolling, tadah" then you go FUUUUU"
If you want something relaxing, slightly dark with a touching ending, definitely watch Tasogare Otome x Amnesia. Although it definitely won't be a 10/10 anime or anywhere close to it, it's definitely on my "Favourites" list.
I've gotta say, it was weird as I had just watched 7 episodes of Nisemonogatari in a row, so suddenly switching to Tasogare Otome x Amnesia was like visiting a whole different country/culture/world.
Btw, Nisemonogatari has a lot of ecchi scenes that are cleverly done and humourous, rarely seen nowadays as most scenes are simply "fanservice". Storyline isn't as strong as Bakemonogatari but it's still interesting nonetheless.
EDIT: Apparently Tasogare Otome x Amnesia has a "Deux Ex" ending and so does Mirai Nikki. Will be interesting to see what happens in Mirai Nikki.
-
Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Triple posting here but I think these posts deserve separation. If mods think otherwise, feel through to merge my posts.
Just finished Nisemonogatari. As I mentioned previously, story isn't as strong, but it's still very enjoyable nonetheless. Character development was good once again and almost all characters were included so that's great. I do like the world it's set in so I'll be waiting for the other series' to come out.
-
Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
This is pretty lonely, quadruple posting in the anime thread.
Almost finished Mirai Nikki, just finished episode 24.
I'm not sure what to say.. I've watched Chaos;Head, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni and maybe some others that I've forgotten about and I was really scared of Higurashi back when I was younger, it really messed with my mind. Now that I'm older, I'm more resistant to these things but when you spend a whole day watching Mirai Nikki, it starts to mess with you. The anime is pretty f***ed up. I don't know how you could say Yuno Gasai is the best and wish to marry a woman like that; I've seen some darker sides in life - All I can say is be careful what you wish for dude. :P
Well I'm gonna leave the last 2 eps for tomorrow and see where it goes. After this I gotta start doing something useful in the summer, I've spent the first week gaming away and the second week watching anime 24/7 so far...

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
How can not fall in love with Yunu-chan? She's totally awesome. How could any man not want a women who is totally in love with you?
After you finished it tomorrow, find the Manga online and go to the last few pages. You understand tomorrow.
Also, there is also the live version too if you want to watch that, it's pretty different to the Anime version. :(

Hmm, I find the last part of the anime really badly done. As in, once the winner "wins". It\'s a bit too open ended IMO. Will read the manga soon too. I did enjoy all the plot twists in the anime though and although the pre-end result was pretty much predictable, the anime did keep you watching it most of the time. There are several animes which I started enjoying but then started losing interest in. I still wouldn\'t go for Gasai Yuno though :P Yuukii was an annoying kid at the beginning, but understandable. He manned up due to what he experienced and became slightly twisted whilst still maintaining a conscience. Loving the second ending of Mirai Nikki though, filament by Yousei Teikoku. Love the powerful, slow, darkish theme with the sort of painful/sadness feeling built into it. The first ending is pretty good too. I\'ve found that on most animes I\'ve liked the ending songs. I\'m one of the very few who don\'t skip the OP and ED of anime episodes though it seems.

I download mine from the sub groups themselves but http://www.nyaa.eu is the main site that most people use, all the sub groups upload their releases there soon as it's ready for release, you can tell the good releases in green.
Few groups I recommend are Doki, UTW, Gotw00t/Gotspeed, FFFpeeps, Hiryuu, Kira-Fansub, WhyNot?, Commie, Underwater, m.3.3.w, Mazui, Subdesu, Subdesu-H, Hatsuyuki and finally Horriblesubs which are rips from CR/FA, there is also Hadena and Coalgirls.
You can track the airing times with this website: http://countdown.mandragon.info You should expect a episode to be subbed within 3 hours to 12, if there is only one group or two is doing it, then it could easy take much longer.
There is also the other steaming sites that you could use that will update themselves but that normally takes a little longer.

Yes, the Anime was a little open ended, but last few pages in the Manga clears that up. :p
Yep, I found Yuukii pretty annoying as well, but I was really pleased when he manned up in the series, all the plot twists was pretty sweet, in the end, I believe the Anime was just a love story and nothing else, everything else, the "game" to choose a new God was just a background story and the real story was the love between Yuno-chan and Yuukii.
The OP and ED was really sweet, one of my all time favourite songs.
Ahh! The last episode of Tasogare Otome x Amnesia gave me man tears, but the ending was sweet, leaves room for a other season! :D
I do recommend you watch Another, I watched the Commie version. The first two-three episodes was slow at first, but after that, the plot started and carried on all the way through in every episode! I can't wait for the BD's to be released so I can watch it without the Jesus white light blocking all the good stuff. :D

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Hmm, I've found that I usually like 12 episode anime as I can finish them in a day. But damn, I've spent almost a whole week just watching anime! Hope I don't get "How did you spend the summer to improve yourself?" on a grad recruitment application form! Tempted to watch Another although I'm not really into the setting or the character designs. (I'm more into anime set in modern times)
I'm gonna go watch a couple episodes of Guilty Crown and see if I like it. Wow, I've listened to "filament" a lot today, already 82 play counts in 1 day!

Another is only set in 1982, it's not that old, honestly it's worth it.
Guilty Crown for me, had a lot of promise but I personally felt that some of the parts in the middle of the series could had been better while the ending was totally trololol, but hey I still enjoyed it, liked it so much that I ordered Inori Yuzuriha Complete Figure.
I just finished rewatching To Love Ru and Motto To Love Ru for the second time around, love that series. I hope To Love Ru gets a third season. I'm looking forward to Darkness, but it won't be the same. xD

Guess I'll be giving it a try later on then. :D
I'm not too into GC as it's shounen but I want to see how Shu evolves. He's turned quickly from Yuki to a confident guy but then he's gone back to school. Not sure if I want to watch 22 (I think?) episodes of "standard" shounen stuff. I guess you like your pink haired girls :P I'm guessing you liked Elfen Lied? But Lucy (I think her name was Lucy) was a lot different though.
I'm not really into pure ecchi/comedy series so I can't comment on To Love Ru. Did watch a few harem type animes a few years back (Zero no Tsukaima, Sekireis and some other stuff that I can't remember)
Hmm girlfriend suggested going to Japan for a week and a bit.. Really tempted but I've almost got no money in my bank (<£500), got a partially faulty monitor and motherboard that needs RMAing and tons of stuff that I need to sell (I reckon £2500 worth of stuff). I don't think it's worth going in August/September due to the typhoon season. Late July would be when we have the chance to go. Hmm.. Can I sort out everything by then? I'd love to go to Japan with my girlfriend though but we're both Chinese and we don't speak any Japanese so it's also going to be complicated... I've forgotten a lot of Japanese phrases too as I dropped anime for almost 2 years since entering uni... Another "hmmm..."
EDIT: Man, "dat sword"! Loving the sword Shu pulls out from Inori. Love stuff like that as it reminds me of omnislash from FF7, Army of one from FFXIII etc. Love massive unreal sword combo attacks!
-
Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Ah~ I guess there are a lot of pink haired girls out there. :P
Elfen Lied is great, it's a shame it was only 12/13 episodes, be so nice if it had a second season. Lucy and Nana was cute. :D Really love to get a hold a of some PVC scale figures of them, but second hand they cost a £500/1000 each. :o
Zero no Tsukaima and Sekiries are top Animes as well, love them both. Sekirei still needs a third season!
Yeah if you going to Japan, I think you going to be needing some spending money, is your girlfriend planning on going alone if you don't come? It be a shame, because it would be a awesome time.
I hope to visit Japan one day, love to practice Kendo there and visit Tokyo, hopefully time it right to see an Animelo Summer Live concert.

Just finished Guilty Crown and apart from the ending, I liked it quite a bit. Seems to be quite a lot of people unhappy with the show and unhappy with how Inori almost never interacted but I liked the characters, both Shu and Inori, Funeral Parlour etc. That's probably what made me like the show. The ending couldn't have been more rushed. Hell, I think anime deserved 37 episodes or at least 30. It had quite a lot of story to tell but told it too fast IMO.
Omg.. £500/1000... That £1000 is more than the 3 Sandybridge based PCs that I built for my whole family!
I was first into Sekirei from reading the manga but then stopped and when I watched the first season, I didn't really find it that interesting anymore and just lost interest in it so I stopped watching it. Never really liked Zero no Tsukaima apart from the voice actress (loved Shana though! urusai! urusai! urusai!).
Nah she wouldn't. I reckon apart from the living expenses and the actual plane ticket though, it shouldn't be too expensive. Only problem is £ to Yen is so low right now, I was reading sleepyhead's thread and they were mentioning how they were gutted it dropped from 150 to 140 but it's at around 120 now! It would definitely be a good experience for both of us, as we both watch anime and she's a sucker for cute things. Only thing I worry about is how I would be able to plan a good holiday, and once we do arrive in Japan, how we would get through. I heard that Japan treats foreigners really nicely and that most can speak reasonable English, but as we're Chinese, it'll be a bit awkward going up to some locals and talking to them in English. Maybe I'm just being paranoid!

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Don't know if it's recommended from the previous thread but, personally I think Case Closed is a very VERY good crime/drama/a bit romance anime.
-
Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
I couldn't agree more on the part about Guilty Crown.
I mean, a lot of people out there are saying Guilty Crown is a bad rip-off to Code Geass but heck they are different animes. There are some similarities in that both are set in a futuristic world but bottom line the storyboards are quite different. I like both, although I would say I prefer CG. However, GC is not bad either and some of characters' reactions are quite realistic.

I thought the studio rushed to make an emotional event. When the girl died, I didn't feel sad ot heartbroken. I was more like ... "So..... ?" The rest of her team were overconfident. They deserved to die!
Didn't get to see the heroine in this episode at all. :(

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Sword Art Online is good so far; I've just watched episode 4. Episode 3 was a little depressing but episode 4 made the inner nerd laugh when he was talking about his health regen.
The anime is running chronologically whereas the manga did a main story first and the time skipped back for side stories.

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
La storia della Arcana Famiglia is quite interesting so far (only 4 episodes out atm).
There's an organisation, called Arcana Famiglia, which protect the island from outside threats and danger. The Famiglia is made up of people who have made contracts with the Arcana cards, and have received special abilities due to this. On his birthday celebration, the "Papa" has decided it's time for him to retire and give up his seat to a new male who has control over an Arcana. To decide who in the "family" gets this seat, he calls for a tournament, called Arcana Duello, between Arcana-users. To the winner, he promises the "Papa" seat, a wish of the winner's choice... And his daughter's hand in marriage.

Thanks, have added to list. The anime looks like it is along the same lines as Hitman Reborn ?

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Just started on watching SAO, the world is unique indeed but I think it does fall quite short from a "good" anime. They just seem to be putting a lot of random chars in with separate plotlines in right now, hopefully they'll be a converging point as it does seem slightly rushed atm.. From killing the boss, to level 48 to level 78 in 4 episodes?
I believe that it will have something interesting that will pop up though. I wanna see more Asuna too cos she was pretty good, I wonder how strong she is now.
EDIT: I also laughed when it was 7v1 and they only did 400 damage whilst his regen was 700 or something! Too funny!
-
Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Apparently the main story starts at episode 8-9. These are just random stories that help you build up knowledge of the main characters.
-
Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
A lot of my favourites are already on the list, loved Clannad and Zero no Tsukaima. One I didn't see was Haibane Renmei, it's a very interesting Drama/slice of life anime that is subtle but moved me immensely. Also liked DNAngel, not really sure which genre it would fit into however.

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
The anime of Sword Art Online is rushed, especially if you read the light novel... you'd feel unsatisfied with the anime :/

Thread updated with some more anime. Sorry, been busy.
Have a guess guys which ones are the newly added ones

Mio! Loved her character in K-on!
Gah I've been addicted to To Love Ru Darkness damnit, just read through it all in one sitting, lol.
I can't believe how much hype SAO is getting though, I personally think it's a bit overhyped.

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
I love SAO, but I totally raged over how the SAO arc ended!!! Damn cheaters I think.

It feels way too rushed. Modern anime fights are way too short, miss those DragonBall Z fights which lasted 10 episodes or those Bleach fights which lasted an episode.
The fight with the spider monster took exactly 1 minute to finish and was completed in the time before the opening for that episode started!? Then, the main bad guy was defeated in ahandful of minutes. And, what's with this bs they made that his sister is actually his cousin. Seriously, who would root for his sis ?
Hayate No Gotoku Season 3 - Can't take my eyes off you out now.
I have dropped it after watching first 2 eps. I haven't laughed even once in both episodes. Shame.
Gintama Season .... nvm .. episode 253-255 has now aired and it's back after a hiatus of 6 months.

They didn't show any of the fights in the last episode of the arc and just breezed through. Very very disappointed and I now wish it doesn't make a comeback!

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Just got back into Bakuman and damn, I'm loving it! I just started on the second season again.
Right now out of all the things I'm watching, these are probably my current rankings in order of my own preference:
Bakuman > Hunter x Hunter > To Love Ru Darkness > Sword Art Online > Btoom!/K Project/Psycho Pass/Little Busters!/Naruto
Quite a lot of standard shounen stuff in that list, would be great to watch something "screwed" up like Mirai Nikki but I guess watching light hearted things with a bit of comedy is quite relaxing too and doesn't keep me too addicted. It's hard to rank the new anime with only a few episodes out at the moment. Not too much of a fan of Little Busters! but I'll probably finish watching it just because it's by Key and I loved Air and Clannad. I don't really get the same vibes from this one though. I'd love to rewatch Clannad one day, that truly was amazing.

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Shin Sekai Yori is quite enjoyable atm. Very weird and not 100% sure what is going on yet but love the ride so far.

I noticed .. it did appear to look cleaner which I dont like much either.
Im not even a gore fan normally but it works with anime well ( prob because cartoons are essentially exaggerations )
The next ( not quite anime ) project Im interested in is this..
I hope it get funded for at least a season ,im a big fan of the comics, they are excellent.
They have a kickstarter page here..
Lena Headey aka Cersei Lannister is already onboard !

Watch Psycho Pass. It is similar Futuristic cop based twisted anime.
-
Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Another vote for Psycho pass from me, although the female MC isn't that likeable though. The male detective is a pretty cool character though.
Shame there hasn't really been any releases for the things I'm watching both this week and last week, hope they're back next week!
Doesn't seem to be many interesting anime in the winter 2012/2013 season though.

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
The following on my 2013 radar:
Maoyuu Mao Yuusha
The Unlimited
Hunter X Hunter: Phantom Rouge (OVA)

Ah I just started watching this last week and caught up to the latest ep, definitely an enjoyable watch. Very dark at times compared to what I expected though.
Just an update of what I'm watching now with some thoughts for anyone interested:
Ongoing series:
Naruto Shippuuden: Not much needs to be said, hopefully there'll be action scenes now that Naruto has completed his training.
Psycho-Pass: Everyone loves a good sci-fi mystery with amazing detectives, I love the setting of the Sibyl system along with the darker elements of this aniime. Can't go wrong too when it's written by Gen Urobuchi.
Shinsekai Yori: As I said above, it's a very enjoyable watch about a group of friends in a society of psychokinetics, discovering dark secrets of their society. Can be rather dark at times as they lose friends and loved ones.
Robotics;Notes: As I'm a fan of Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate, I naturally had to watch Robotics;Notes. Not really a fan of the characters but I can't wait to see what the plot brings.
Bakuman 3: One of my favourites, I love watching the hard work the geniuses Ashirogo Muto put in and the obstacles they face.
Little Busters!: As a fan of Key, I decided to watch this but I've not been absorbed by it at all. I'll still finish it though in the hope of something amazing building up.
Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo: Lots of funny moments when as the completely senseless Mashiro begins to fall in love with Sorata. Sorata does make me a little frustrated at times but not long enough before the comedy moments hit again.
HunterxHunter: I can never get bored of following Gon and Kilua's adventures in HunterxHunter! It's one of the shounen anime that I never stop enjoying.
New series:
Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?: 3 overpowered human enter a realm where they bet with Gods? Worth a watch.
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha: Didn't think I'd be watching this as it seems very Spice and Wolf like and I didn't like Spice and Wolf but this seems to be a little different. Not sure if I'll continue with it though.
Amnesia: A very very "shoujo" anime, reminds me of Vampire Knight. Don't watch this if you can't stand bishounen haha.
Vividred Operation: I haven't watched Strike Witches or To Aru Majutsu no Index but I imagine they're somewhat similar. I'll probably drop this as it's quite predictable and not as enjoyable as something like Mondaiji.
Was looking forward to Savanna Game but it seems to be mysteriously cancelled. :(
Just completed Tari Tari and Kokoro Connect a few weeks ago. Tari Tari wasn't anything special plot wise, but the characters were just so engaging and fun to watch, leaving you with a warm feeling inside. I'm surprised I liked the songs in it too. Kokoro Connect on the other hand was slightly dark at times but whilst some of it was predictable, it was a very enjoyable watch as you saw the strength of their friendships, would love to watch more of it. I hope Iori manages to develop further though, her life didn't seem like an easy one at all.

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Don't forget ...
Gintama - Finally, the reruns have ended and the new arc with the white police has kicked off!
-
Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Anyone else seen Chihayafuru? I rather liked how they managed to turn something that seems boring into an emotionally engaging anime. It's op song ain't too bad either.
Hunter X Hunter is kinda weird for me. I can't get over how it's so different to the original series. Feels like it's dropped into the uncanny valley. Out of curiousity, where in the story are they?
-
Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Not watched Gintama or Chihayafuru.
They're on Greed Island now in Hunter x Hunter and undergoing training.

Oohhh. by the crazy loli lady right? If they continue past this arc, I might actually pick it up again since the ending to the last one was a bit...vague.

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Haha "crazy loli lady" is spot on! As I've not read the manga or watched the original series, I just can't stop wanting to know what happens in the next episode.

I have. It's ok. Think about how commuters rush for trains, trying to edge past others, trying to be ahead of everyone else, so that they can get a seat or get on the train. Now, apply that to grocery stores where main course food gets stamped at a discount price at the end of the day and all these bargain hunters are eagerly waiting around and rush for the disocunted food , but hang on .. you have to fight out other people!

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Just wanted to throw a hands up for Shinsekai Yori again, it is simply amazing. Although it was rather inconsistent at the beginning, this series just exceeds my expectations again and again. Every time I watch the latest episode, I'm left thinking "Has it already been 20 mins?!" and I end up wanting more. This will definitely go on my favourites list.

Just finished watching Mirai Nikki.
Not impresed, have seen so many anime of this type .. cant even remember which ones! And, the ending was :tomato:

Another upvote for Shinsekai Yori. Don't know where it is going but it is a hell of good journey.
Hunter x Hunter is strong as ever. They are most of the way through Greed Island arc and they are actually going to animate Chimera Ant which will take it past the original.
Also I'm quite liking The Unlimited: Hyoubu Kyousuke atm.

Man this list is awsome. Im gonna start downloading right away. What about Wicked City?

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Oh man, I just read the manga "Aku no Hana" and it's pretty damn crazy. An anime adaptation is up next so it'll be interesting to see how it goes. I'm thankful my life is "normal", anime gets pretty ****ed up but I guess that's why I enjoy it haha.

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Shinsekai no Yori is awesome.
Also like Kotoura-san.
I had no expectation of AKB0048, but it reminds me of Macross (at least the first season) o.O

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Just wanted to update with some comments on the series that I finished from last season: (trying to not spoil the story so it will be very vague)
Psycho-Pass: The story started off really well and it always kept me wanting more but the ending just didn't seem to leave much impact. OTOH, it was most likely the best way to wrap up the story. I've gotta say this is a recommended series from me as the story, characters and the world it's set in are just all very good.
Shinsekai Yori: Definitely my favourite of the season. This was the anime that I was waiting to watch every week, the story was just amazing, and truthfully speaking, although the anime wasn't done that well, I'm sure the novel it was based on would have been a 10/10 in my books. I say the anime wasn't done that well because there were moments where I was struggling to understand what was going on due to the way the anime was presented, it wasn't free-flowing as I would have preferred it to be, but it could just be me. I loved how everything gradually came together in the end and the truth that was revealed. There certainly were a lot of plot twists and it was one hell of an adventure, literally. I've got to say, character development here was exceptional in my eyes and it was close to perfect as the story was very interesting and full of suspense along with likeable characters.
Robotics;Notes: R;N started off slow and I found the characters rather boring at the beginning but I gradually grew to like them to an extent. The plot was really interesting before the final plot twist but after that, I began to lose a bit of interest; I usually love plot twists but this one just threw me off too much. The ending had no impact whatsoever and made me cringe a little as the action scene was rather poor. It was a happy ending but the happiness wasn't translated onto me at all and I pretty much forgot about the anime after finishing it. I rewatched Chaos;Head after this and IMO, S;G>C;H>R;N but I'm not too big a fan of either of the 3. S;G and C;H are pretty close for me though and I heard people say the C;H anime doesn't do the VN justice so it could be that C;H>S;G.
Bakuman 3: Ah, sadly Bakuman has come to an end. I became really absorbed in the hard work of the pair and their subsequent success. Each time I saw them succeed, I just had that warm feeling inside of me from watching them. I loved how far they went in the anime and the rivals and friends they met on their way. Certainly another one of my favourites and very enjoyable to watch. The happy ending only adds to how much I loved this anime.
Little Busters: Unfortunately, I just couldn't get immersed in the "Key experience" this time round. The characters were all quite likeable, but the story just seemed boring to me and from start to finish, I was rather bored, I only watched on in hope of it getting better but, unfortunately, it did not.
Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo: Surprisingly enough, I didn't think I would like this series that much. After Kimi ni Todoke, I got somewhat sick of romcoms but I thought I'd give it a try and I quite liked the characters here. The story was quite realistic and it did show how cruel and unfair life could be, making you relate back to the anime yourself which was what probably got me enjoying it the most. The comedy wasn't too special but it did make me laugh every episode so I can't deny that I liked this anime. Overall it was an upbeat yet lighthearted school life romcom with a lovely set of characters.
Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?: I watched this with little expectations as I knew that it wouldn't have much of a plot and with it being only 10 episodes long, it was going to be hard for it to leave much of an impression. This is the type of series you'd watch if you want some of the typical shounen action type stuff and it gets right in with the main character being super overpowered throughout the whole anime. On top of that, he's a smart one too, something you rarely see in the other anime, making him even more overpowered. I generally don't watch shounen type anime due to the way the main characters are initially weak, stupid and indecisive but this basically skips past those and presents you an overpowered, strong and smart main character to dish damage on everyone that goes against him. If the season was any longer I'd most likely get bored though as the storyline isn't a strong one and I was really only here for the action.
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha: As I mentioned previously, this has a very Spice and Wolf feel to it and upon further research, this was due to Maoyuu being written by S&W fans on the 2ch board. They used the same voice actors for the lead roles too. I never did manage to finish S&W, mainly because I wasn't interested in watching the witty exchanges between the two back then but as I've read, Maoyuu seems to be the dumbed down, mainstream version of S&W, which is probably why it was a rather enjoyable watch for me. The story was a relatively simple one in which it was a world of humans vs demons but you couldn't say either of the sides were bad - or good for that matter. The politics and economics along with the corruption involved kept the story interesting to an extent but there were times where I considered to drop this as it wasn't my cup of tea but I still came back to it after every episode.
Vividred Operation: Just your standard magical/battle girl anime, not much impact left on me but again, this was one of the series that I wasn't expecting much from. I rarely watched these types of anime so it was somewhat enjoyable, I did like the docking system but the action scenes were rather standard and repetitive. Still, I got through the episodes quickly without wondering how long has passed and I never really thought about dropping it, just ended up watching it last most of the time as there was nothing special or different about it.
Ended up dropping Amnesia after episode 4 as I got rather bored with how the plot structure involves repeating the day with a different guy.
Not much interest in the anime of this season but I still managed to pick up a few and here are my initial impressions from episode 1/2:
Yuyushiki: From the first episode, it reminds me of Nichijou, a very funny, slice of life anime - hopefully it keeps me laughing through the season.
Red Data Girl: I'm not sure why this is so hyped but I've watched several episodes now and whilst the plot seems standard, I'm still interested in what will happen. The female lead can be annoying most of the time due to how timid and weak she is but it's not unexpected really, unfortunately I'm failing to connect with her though so she's rather distracting. I'm hoping for the characters to develop otherwise I don't think I can enjoy the series. I also hope that the story is interesting enough to make me regret on finding the female lead annoying.
Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru: I've gotta admit that I only watched the first episode as Nagi Yanagi sang the OP for this anime. Seems like a standard slice of life anime to me but it's meant to be a romcom so it'll be interesting to see how things change. Has a slight Bakemonogatari feel to it due to the two main leads being somewhat similar.
Aku no Hana: I was expecting a lot after reading the manga as I do like "messed up" storylines but the anime seems to be lacking. A lot of people are hating the art style due to it being done through rotoscoping and I do feel it's rather choppy but I'm mostly fine with it. My main issues with the anime is that the first episode seemed rather slow and the characters all seem a bit too old when compared with the manga. Whilst you can tell that the plot will be a dark one, I feel the anime is somewhat too lighthearted and not as powerful and full of suspense as the manga. Hopefully the second episode can change my opinion of it. One thing to note is the ED song though, it's rather disturbing.
Shingeki no Kyojin: The first episode was quite different from what I expected, the main character is the most hot-blooded and idealistic character that I've seen, which doesn't suit him as he appears to be a rather young child. I'm a fan of anime set in a dystopia though so unless it's really bad I'll most likely still like it in the end.
Suisei no Gargantia: Couldn't say no to an anime written by Urobuchi Gen, not too much of a fan of mecha anime but I do love the AI and the interaction between the main character and his AI companion so far and I'm looking forward to see how the plot unfolds.
I also read all 200 chapters of Great Teacher Onizuka and I've gotta say, I didn't expect to love it but I did. It had me laughing so much and although the plot was a relatively simple one, it was nice to see how Onizuka would solve the problems even though using his brain was not one of his strengths at all. Gotta love the support from his students too and the way they teamed up together.

Re: The Anime Thread 2 :)
Attack on Titan (currently airing, episode 8) is by far the best anime I've seen this season, well actually prob the best from the last couple of years.
Gritty, dark, and a grim reminder that everyone is very VERY mortal.
