Iron Sky
Saw this in Bristol for it's one-day-only cinema release on Wednesday and it really is one of the best films i've seen in a long time. It manages to mix a preposterous story with some good effects along with some genius comedy and political satire...
Did anyone else manage to catch it? If you dont know the premise of it watch this:

The one day release got extended due to a fan campaign, unfortunately I still couldn't get to see it. But I have the blu-ray arriving tomorrow hopefully. Really looking forward to seeing it.

Re: Iron Sky
Still was only one day in Newcastle at the Odeon, Empire and Tyneside, had tickets and still missed it due to a trip to A&E with the lass on Wednesday evening. Will have to grab the Blu-Ray I think, really want to see this.

Re: Iron Sky
Managed to catch this. Really enjoyed it. Something original for once. Been watching too many sequels lately.
They captured American politics perfectly too :D

Re: Iron Sky
Watched it last night, have to say it was quite entertaining for what it was. Much better than some of the crap that's out there.

Re: Iron Sky
Just watched it, sort of liked it and didn't like it.
Design is great, all the 40esk stuff looks good and right, costumes are great, the concept is still great, and some lovely digs at american and world politics.
Now I do realise that this is a B-movie and should be seen as anything else, but something just wasn't quite right about it, maybe it seems like they tried to put too much comedy into it.
Compared to something like mars attacks it's just not as good comedy wise and there's a too much comedy to be a good invasion from outer space b-movie
I've heard it referred to as carry on space nazi which I think almost sums it up, however that wasn't quite what I wanted, I wanted more 50's b-movie.
Still it was fun and I did like it.

Re: Iron Sky
Just watched and it wasn't for me.
Was hoping for Mars Attacks! and got something closer to independance day.
I think as it was so long in production they ended up rushing it. Frauline's attitude later on and the weed plants seem a few indicators of a larger story.

Re: Iron Sky
If people watched the last Star Wreck movie,it was obvious this was going to more of a parody than anything serious.
For a movie which costs $9.3 million, the effects were pretty impressive IMHO. I do like the references to things like Downfall, when the lady gets annoyed or even the fact that the US president is reciting words Goebbels supposedly spoke. Timo Vuorensola said he did that to show how little the rhetoric by politicians had changed:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-18173708
It seems a lot of the English language reviews by critics on US and UK websites are quite bad(under 50%) even though reviews in Europe and by the public seem much higher. It does make me suspect whether some of the pop-culture references and absurdities of the movie are lost on them,or whether it is just snobbery, considering the decent ratings given to some of the by the numbers sequels out there.
Star Wreck was funnier when you got some of the puns on names, some of which were lost in translation.
Having said that even Bladerunner was panned by the "critics" at the time(although I am not saying Iron Sky will be eventually considered as good as Bladerunner though).

Re: Iron Sky
I wasn't expecting much but the U.S President/Palin parody made it for me tbh, great stuff :)

Re: Iron Sky

Re: Iron Sky
Well I got it on Bluray and still enjoyed it a second time round - got some jokes I missed the first time.
For those doubting or unsure, it really should be perceived as a bit of fun with some great digs against politics and the "NWO".
