Id be interested to see what a Nolan version would look like , but other than him - how many fantasy directors are there with the credentials that come anywhere close to pulling this off ?

and then your left with a coin toss of an unkown or a Director whose films have all been medicore or unrelated at best.

Lucas at least had the advantage of doing a sci-fi film before star wars that was pretty good but I dont see any one else out there exactly lighting up the film world worth mentioning.

The best case scenario I can see is someone with a real passion for Star Wars ( like jackson did for LOR ) coming in and perhaps restoring some credibility and popularity but it will never approach the originals IMO unless its something right out of the ball park .

You know G Lucas wanted David Lynch to direct ROTJ ?



Remember G lucas is still involved too ( creative consultant ) , so for all intent purposes he will prob have a large chunk of influence in what is or isnt allowed.

So my question is what self respecting Director is going to want to have the pressure of dealing with that, and proverbial bogeyman over your shoulder ??

I could see a lot of upstarts happy for the exposure though - but not someone whose got a good track or pedigree themselves .

Youd never see Orson Welles do it , but it would make one hell of outake to hear him and Lucas go at it.

I know what you mean.

Part of me wants to see it continue and other is nervous it will be the final nail in the coffin.

Id rather they waited till the next Spielberg or whoever arrived than just throw it out there to any one.

Nolans tied up with Superman and prob Justice League , so I dont see him doing it which doesnt give me much hope for anyone else...

I think the safer approach would of been do an animated film /s or tv ( TV shows these days seem to be way ahead of the film scene and have been for a while )not sure why.

His films have about as much depth as an episode of the tellytubbies.. and full of the very CGI that ruined SW.

No more cgi rubbish , lets get back 2 basics and what made it great
The fact CGI influenced directors like him are even being considered is just BEEPING ridiculous.

The man has no credible work to his name at all ,and been involved in nothing but kiddy material with crap stroylines ( cabin in the woods any one )and rubbish acting.

I couldnt stand Avengers or Buffy , and I bet Im not alone - and this is exactly why making more films is bad idea IMO.

The only credible Directors are either too old skool who havent done anything in years and too rich - like Spielberg or Scott - to really care

Or someone like Nolan or maybe a Fincher

Or someone whose unkown and something to prove

In all cases the outlook is not good because there really isnt any talented directors any more IMO who are good fit - Nolan is really the best and only one.

For all the years Ive watched CGI it still just looks fake to me, you can tell when its CGI ,and even when its done exceptionally well it still doesnt look real or convincing because its not frightening or surreal / edgy..

Go look at the old Sinbad or Clash of Titans and you will see even when done badly there is something surreal and edgy about it that makes it come more alive than some generic CGI bull..

Same with large scale animatronics etc

Its like looking at Monet painting and then a photo , the painting has something personal about it that a photo or machine cant replicate because it was done by a human.

In all honesty no one..

Nolan would be interesting and my personal choice because he would make totally different films and not try to pay hommage to something that cant be recreated.

The other would be Darren Aronofsky

I think its the wrong time & " space " .. film industry has never been worse for quality and this is just another cash cow attempt to exploit that ..

Disney are going to get firebombed worse than Michael Bay by older fans and Star Wars will become a curse no one will want to touch - with the end result being no Director will want to have anything to do with it all .. at least not in my life time..
