Re: The Hobbit an unexpected journey

Strangely enough it was the rabbit chase that was almost the highlight for me , I just felt the rest of it ( important bits ) came over as more footnotes than really a proper story.

I remember the bit when they were stuck up the trees being more drawn out in the book and far better than what they did in the film .

Cool Re: The Hobbit an unexpected journey

You have to admit tho, Benedict Cumberbatch (or cucumber patch as I like to call him) was good in this. His best work yet!

Re: The Hobbit an unexpected journey

I was quite disappointed with the Hobbit film. Far too long with far too many unnecessary scenes. I said when I heard that this should never have been made into three films, and I was proven right.

I was surprised to learn it was going to be a trilogy. It's a single book, make a single film for pete's sake - three films sounds more like a money gouging exercise. Having seen it now, I was also pretty underwhelmed, although I thought Freeman was pretty good in the role.

I agree but maybe two films max. The next two should be the best ones but hopefully it beats Frodo going up a hill for three hours

Re: The Hobbit an unexpected journey

Watched this the other night and I have to say I am astonished by what PJ has done to this.

I mean astounded in a kind of speechless/affronted kind of way. He's changed the whole feel to the story in an effort to make it into an advertisement for the lord of the rings. I'm definitely not paying to see the second one.

Yeah I know what you mean... OTOH I don't think he had much choice if he wanted funding for it; a small, intimate little fun adventure was never going to sell to the suits in charge of marketing...

Re: The Hobbit an unexpected journey

The movie was boring. I would not recommend to watch if you've read the book, as you will be disappointed. In contrast to the stunning book, the movie is totally lacking the action.

Seems like there are alot of negatives for the 1st film.

Has anyone seen the 2nd installment yet?

Re: The Hobbit an unexpected journey

I saw the 2nd one the other day and I can't help but say I prefer the first film in the series so far.

This film felt more superfluous than the previous and I couldn't help but be bored at times. I'm not one of those 90 minute film goers but this felt way too long.

The Tauriel sub plot seemed utterly pointless and there was this unintentional funny moment with her that caused quite a few people to crack up.

Also I thought the cgi looked a little naff to me at times which is surprising given it's a Weta Workshop production.

Lastly I can't help but think splitting the film into 3 parts rather than 2 was a grave mistake but that's just me.

Agreed, whilst I enjoyed it more the first one they're dragging it out far to long, It's only a 300 page book where as LOTR has 1200 pages (Approx'ish).
