Come on... who's read it?
Not just Magician.... but Silverthorn and Darkness at Sethanon and then all of Feist's awesome books?
Any one got goosebumps from remembering these genius books?
I know some of you have![]()

They are also a perfect example of why I buy books, not (generally) borrow them. I can then go to my "library", browse, see what tickles my interest, and read it. And having been buying books for 40+ years, and only ever gaving got rid of about half a dozen (including a couple that got left on planes, and I ended up buying again, dammit), I've now got a pretty healthy collection to choose from.
And that reminds me, haven't read them for a while. Hmmm.![]()
I have read them several times. They are one of my favorite series of books. I'm slowly adding them to my Kindle collection.
Brilliant Books! Also The final book in the saga is out soon!
Yes, another reader - though not since I was in my teens!![]()
Not this againLike the last time, I'll say: rubbish
Magician is OK. The rest, bad, except where co-written with Janny Wurts (empire trilogy).
Go read some Robin Hobb, Patrick Rothfuss and George RR Martin, then when you try to read Feist again your eyes will bleed and beg you to stop.
Reminds me. I must try and get a copy of Hyperion and the Fall of Hyperion.
Society's to blame,
Or possibly Atari.
I've read the first trilogy. Magician is a brilliant book, certainly one of the best I've read but the rest were a bit meh. I didn't enjoy them too much probably because I found Pug such a great character and then he was gone.
An Atlantean Triumvirate, Ghosts of the Past, The Centre Cannot Hold
The Pillars of Britain, Foundations of the Reich, Cracks in the Pillars.
My books are available here for Amazon Kindle. Feedback always welcome!
A bit like you loving coffee cake cake and him over there liking chocolate cake. Personally, I'll take a good Victoria sponge over either. My wife loves Brussel spouts, but they make me puke .... literally. I, on the other hand, love most seafood and most of it makes the wife puke, again, literally.
Got to agree with this. It's readable enough, but he really does create a far too powerful character, makes life far too complicated and then tries to write more stories after Magician which, well, don't really work.
As a stand alone book, Magician is something fit for 12 year olds. You read it along with David Eddings, but it's stepping stone fantasy rather than worthwhile.
woah ... that's a bit harsh, but you say it like you mean it so I shall assume you feel that strongly.
I re read it this year.. and it's still amazing for me. I like the naivity.. and I still read the original version, not his rewrite.
Now... because of this thread I'm 2 out of 3 books through Mara's trials cowritten by Janny Wurts.. and it IS genius. Deep and complex politics and some of the best tear jerking moments.
