Yes, as I mentioned above, probably the worst episode of season 7 and it had some serious competition for that title.

But let's stop talking about the bad episodes, let's look at the parallel episode from season 5 - The Beast Below.
Similar in many respects, the second episode with a new companion, the companion befriends a small girl, there is a twist about the "beast".
But oh so different, instead of a myriad of daft alien species we have a nice mix of the familiar and the futuristic, the little girl is a much better character, the story isn't some simplistic good vs evil, but a tricky moral conundrum. The ending is just superb, similar in that essentially the companion saves the doctor, but just in an infinitely more satisfactory way. Amy uses intelligence, instinct and guts rather than "a leaf".
So much more edgy, great music and great Matt Smith speeches.

Time to cancel?
Not, I 'd suggest, while viewing figures are still high, and as I understand it, they are.
Yes, he was just as scary as the aliens for me - which I think is telling because somebody who time travels is probably going to be affected / haunted by what he's seen in some way.
After all if you could see - or had seen the future but not been necessarily able to alter or change it I imagine their would be this sort of inevitable sense of impending doom , and he always came over having that sense of ......melon collie or regret about him for me.
Distinctive voice too , surely one of the best theres ever been.
I must admit I've found myself really liking matt smith as the doctor, he does a good job of portraying the doctor as a character who's trying to escape the darker, more intense and serious side of his personality. Also there's something odd about his face, bugged me at first but it does somehow make him seem more like a different race. (not the best wording or way to put it I know)
I'm not sure I like the way all the companions are becoming more "special" people, that's not to say they have to be one dimensional but they are no longer people who happen to get caught up in events but some special individuals and the whole series underlying plot revolves around.
And I agree that all the one off episodes are too short, I would prefer some longer multi-part episodes.

Hmm. Watched about two episodes with him in it. Previously I could watch the first two Tennant seasons - not all great and he is a bit foppish, but overall okay. The last few Tennant ones with the ridiculous overacting Master were at that point an all time low. Then came the bow-tie wearing fishfingers-and-custard eating Smith doctor... noooo. Watched a few clips of a few MS episodes now and then, but so vacuous I completely lost interest. Bow-tie retro thing is a token effort to appease the old LGBT and 70s community fans, but still somehow try to be 'yoof', and fails miserably on both.
That and the fact of all time times and places in the universe, they endlessly keep coming back to Britain 2012. Plus it is still childish, shallow, am-dram level overacting, show-offy, silly chase-scene filled one-dimensional-plot pap.
Did I mention I don't like it?
Apparently the Daily Star thinks it's going to be Paris Jackson next.
1) it's the Daily Star
2) OMG what if they're even partially correct ?
Society's to blame,
Or possibly Atari.

Haven't liked the new guy at all.
Not wishing to cause any offence, just MHO, but I wished they'd cancelled it years ago! It makes me cringe when I hear adults watching and talking about it. I honestly thought it was aimed at children?
Just to clarify, I used to enjoy the originals - I don't think that's entirely down to nostalgia!?
