Re: Time to cancel Dr Who ?
Yeah it's gone rapidly down hill since the first Matt Smith series.
Far too many weak and indulgent episodes before you get to an episode worth watching.
Too many episodes are based a round a single "wouldn't it be cool if.." premise leaving the plot paper thin.
Re: Time to cancel Dr Who ?
Im not sure what the views were like for last season but if they are good, they will most likely find somebody new and continue it.

So - actor has left - time to kill it?
should of been killed yrs ago IMO..
Tom Baker was the man , and there have been none like him since.
Re: Time to cancel Dr Who ?
It's a family/child entertainment show funded by the BBC/BBC worldwide & BBC America.
It is just meant to be entertaining. you are trying to compare it to US scifi shows (BSG etc) which are targeted at an older more mature audience.
I am not saying you are wrong (personal preference when it comes to tv shows) but it may just be you are not its target audience.
Re: Time to cancel Dr Who ?
My biggest gripe with it is the horrible short format, I much preferred the old style 4 or 5 parts per story, made for a much more expansive story.
Sadly, its rather like movies, first 60% is all background and filler, then 30% drama, followed by a rapid 10% "clean up" at the end.
Dunno about killing it off though, they just need to be careful who they pick, dont need another Eccleston who drops out very quickly, need at least 2-3 years, or series, worth of commitment at the very least.
Re: Time to cancel Dr Who ?
I still like it, but I admit that a few things about it have annoyed me.
For one thing, the second to last episode of Series 7 had the kids in, who showed no amazement whatsoever of the fact that they have travelled through time and space, but instead acted as if it was something that they were used to all of the time and wasn't remotely interesting.
Just about everything with that episode seemed terrible to me though, other than the possible indication that the girl could be a younger version of the Queen on Starship UK from the second episode of Series 5.
I really think that revealing the secret of Clara should have been dragged out for longer, possibly to the end of Series 8, as it had only been a few episodes since she started travelling with The Doctor and hardly anything had been revealed about her at all (particularly not in the aforementioned episode with the kids, as you could ignore that episode and not feel like you had missed anything).
I don't think that it is time to kill it, but I do expect that John Hurt is a past (and formerly unknown, Time War-based) incarnation of The Doctor rather than the next one.
Re: Time to cancel Dr Who ?
love doctor who and so do the kids - thankfully the `reboot` was much better than the aweful 80`s rubbish , although not liking matt smith as much as david tennant
Re: Time to cancel Dr Who ?
Dr. Who = Star Trek by CBBC
:clapping::clapping::clapping:
Re: Time to cancel Dr Who ?
I've never particularly seen the appeal either - It wasn't too bad when the reboot started, but I have to agree with others. The stories are very predictable and boring now.
Re: Time to cancel Dr Who ?
There have just been so many really terrible episodes this season, although I thought things started off quite well with Asylum of the Daleks.
Dinosaurs on a Spaceship
Just awful, far too many characters, far too much showing off, silly cameo appearances and boring baddie.
A Town Called Mercy
Little more than an excuse to dress up in cowboy costumes. Not nearly as bad as last season's Pirate episode though.
The Power of Three
Too much referencing earlier episodes, more clumsy cameos, awful ending.
The Rings of Akhaten
Too many silly alien species, isn't Clara kind, what a great leaf.
Everything is just too much showing off, too much self indulgence, too much 'style' over substance.
A great pity as there was so much promise in Series 5.

each to his own , I didnt mind the first ( new doctor ) before Tenant so much , though he still lacked the charm of Baker and fashion , he at least added that sense of apprehension that the other 2 make a mess of .
Just look at Tenant in that reboot of fright night - he just doesnt know to be serious and create suspense or fear - Tom baker only had to look at you and you genuinely felt like your whole existence depended on his every word.
I can see Tenants appeal to this generation though , but as wasabi pointed out its pure nonsense compared to US shows that manage to balance elements better , I mean if it lacks tension or fear ( like youd expect from a sci-fi show ) how are you meant to get into it or care ?
It might as well be carry on Dr Who with Noel Edmonds as the master and Russel Brand as the camp Dr spreading his semen across the Universe
Re: Time to cancel Dr Who ?
well if they stick to the rules this will be the last time as dr who can only change 12 times ..but it's a great show if you take it for what it is .. not for what it should be ...
Re: Time to cancel Dr Who ?
Sounds like I'm one of the few here that likes the show. I actually liked the trio of Matt Smith, Amy Pond and Rory and miss them all being part of the show.
My 5 year old has just got interested in it so I've been going back over series 5 with him. Great fun :)
Re: Time to cancel Dr Who ?
Oh I could quite happily rewatch series 5, well I might have to miss out the Dalek episode. Defuse a bomb with love? What is this, the Teletubbies?
Actually I think those Daleks were the Teletubbies, they were certainly brightly coloured enough and I'd swear one had a handbag.
Re: Time to cancel Dr Who ?
Yeah, they do have the odd stinker.
But they do seem to have been every other one in the latest series. In particular I found The Rings of Akhaten really annoying.
