Had this in my collection for an age but never watched it.
a) Is it worth 2 hours of my life?
b) Is it one to watch with my wife? She's vegetarian if that makes a difference! (think it's a bloody flick?)

Not really and probably not.
Ichi the Killer is AWESOME!!!!
Not one for the squeamish though as it is really bloody and vicious at times.
My version has an optional English dubbed soundtrack, makes them sound like South Londoners! I do prefer to watch it though in Japanses with the subtitles.
Literally the film itself is about an assassin effectively who is hired to take out members of 2 different mobs so they start to destroy each other. Thing is though one of the mobs has a masochist (Usually the guy on the cover) who tortures his victims and it can be rather nasty and Ichi is also manipulated to do the bidding and he can be equally nasty in some of the scenes.
I personally think it is a cinematic tour de force, if you like things like Battle Royale and Ong Bak then you will most likely enjoy it.
Oh, I'm liking the description! loved Battle Royale, take or leave Ong Bak. Think I'm going to give it a shot - I'll report back!
Theres a few cringeworthy bits on it!
Highlight below to read, slight spoiler :
**One scene near the beginning with the sado masochist where he has a guy suspended from the ceiling with hooks facing down and starts pouring boiling water over his back, another bit later on with Ichi where it is a bloodbath and he slices someones face of and it hits the wall and slides down it. Its rather nasty but very vivid, its not mindless violence though, there is reason for it happening through manipulation & revenge.
**
You really have to pay attention, just like Battle Royale. I have watched that umpteen times now and every time I watch it I pick up on more of the subtlety in the dialogue and story.
I watched 13 Assassins instead and thoroughly enjoyed it! Ichi remains on the shelf until another night in!
I keep being recommended to watch this but the trailer creeps me out. Been looking for movies to watch though so I guess I'll give it a go
