    Pacific Rim

I went with a few mates(including a few who were a bit dubious about its potential),none left not entertained. It might not be the latest Merchant Ivory production in terms of character development but it had frikkin large mecha on screen beating the crap out of assorted monsters so I didn't care, and neither did anyone else it seems. The first time proper mecha have popped up in a Hollywood film and it was shiny. I like shiny.

    Eat your heart out Transformers.

Plus it has epic theme music:

Saw this on Friday - was surprised how much I enjoyed it. That's despite watching in 3d (hate 3d!) on a very small cinema screen (3d is even worse on a small screen!)

Del Toro hints what we might see in a sequel:

    Re: Pacific Rim

I don't think a sequel is a good idea...That would need 1) A FFWD of atleast 20 years 2) Both Raleigh and Mako would be old by then 3) How? 4) And even if he manages to address all this, it will still sound unconvincing.

Take heed Mr. Del Toro, don't spoil a well-made standalone with a sequel it doesn't require.

    Re: Pacific Rim

It seems to have netted $407 million so far, which is not too bad considering the response in the US and makes it the biggest film Del Toro has made:

Some details about the SFX for the movie:
