Your votes for worst movies of the year? (spoilers)
Well since the year is almost up and another thread got me thinking about the truly awful movies I've seen this year I started this post.
So lets post our nominations for our three worst movies of the year (difficult I know as there have been loads).
POSSIBLE SPOILERS (although these are awful so do yourself a favour and don't watch them).
I'll kick off:
1st - World War Z;
A jaw-droppingly moronic plot and script. Brad Pitt flies around the world trying to find the source of a Zombie plague which ends in... A council estate near Cardiff? Oh and an imprisoned psycho CIA agent explains that the plague hasn't affected North Korea as the government went round and pulled out everyone's teeth. Yep - they pulled out 800 million teeth.
'Jesus wept' moment: when Zombies scale the walls of Jerusalem because of the noise of Jews and Muslims singing together in harmony (apparently the helicopter gunships and planes landing didn't peak their interest).
2nd - Olympus Has Fallen;
Again utterly idiotic plot. President Whatever is in Camp David, a heavy snowstorm hits so the secret service decide they'd better drive him back to Washington, obviously. As they are driving, at a suitably slow speed given the conditions, a stone hits the inch thick bullet resistant glass on a car. The highly trained agent driving throws a :censored: - fit and drives off a bridge. Meanwhile the presidents limo goes skidding behind and teeters off the edge of the bridge. The first lady falls out and drowns, naturally. Poor Gerard blames himself and quits.
North Korean terrorists then take over the white house, strafe Washington from a C130 gunship or similar and bitch slap the secretary of state. Gerard kills them all with his terrible American accent (or a gun, could have been a gun).
'Jesus wept' moment - When the North Koreans take the bullet ravaged US flag and toss it off the roof in slow motion. I threw up a little.
3rd - The Hobbit; (I realise a lot of people liked this movie for some reason - I'm not trolling, I truly hated it)
A three hour long cartoon of fat singing dwarves doing dishes and sod all else. One of the the most excruciatingly boring 3 hours I have ever spent in front of a TV. Made all the worse by the fact that I had no idea Jackson had padded a short kid's book into nine hours of movie split into 3 parts. I can't repeat here what I said when it 'ended' but suffice to say I won't be watching the next two.
'Jesus wept' moment - Almost all of it but especially the 'ending'.
So what movies did you sit thru that you'd wished you hadn't in 2013?
Re: Your votes for worst movies of the year? (spoilers)
Roughly in chronological order:
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters
A Good Day To Die Hard
Movie 43
Spring Breakers
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone
The Internship
Bonus mentions to the 20-30 mins of filler/pacing in The World's End and the performance by Ryan Reynolds in R.I.P.D.
Re: Your votes for worst movies of the year? (spoilers)
Sadly, just about every Hollywood film I seen this year has been mediocre at best. At worst, they've been utterly abysmal! I really can't think of a film I've seen which has provoked more than a fleeting afterthought once the credits started rolling. Maybe I'm just getting old... :undecided
Re: Your votes for worst movies of the year? (spoilers)
Nope, I'd go with this year being pretty poor even compared to 2010-2012. Although Elysium was probably the most entertaining blockbuster for me in 2013 and Stand Up Guys as the honourable mention.
Re: Your votes for worst movies of the year? (spoilers)
Yeah it has been poor. That giant lizard movie, I forget the name, was pretty poor too. Why is it that these big lizards from another dimension always manage to time their arrival at night? Pretty fed up watching £200m SFX movies where most of the action happens in the dark...
Re: Your votes for worst movies of the year? (spoilers)
I'm guessing you mean Pacific Rim, the one with Luther & the lad from Queer as Folk? Never mind, we've still got Anchorman 2, 47 Ronin and American Hustle left in 2013. Then Dom Hemingway in early 2014. Xmas might still be saved :)
Re: Your votes for worst movies of the year? (spoilers)
Recently saw The Councilor, may be the worst film I've seen this year. Honestly couldn't comment on most of the ones mentioned here, haven't bothered watching anything but the Hobbit.
Re: Your votes for worst movies of the year? (spoilers)
The Hobbit. Nothing interesting happened. Padded boring self-indulgent fluff.
Die Hard - A good day to die hard. Everything about it has been done better in other movies. Tired boring formulaic bilge. Attempts at humour failed miserably.

I've actually enjoyed quite a lot of stuff this year - in terms of sheer switch your brain off entertainment:
Pacific Rim
White House Down
That prison break one with arnie in.
Fast 6
Pain & Gain
Properly good films:
Wreck It Ralph
2 Guns
Enders Game
Hitchcock
Saving Mr Banks
Philomena
The Way Way Back
Riddick
Stuff that was genuinely mind numbingly bad:
Mortal Instruments
The Hobbit
About Time
RIPD

Thank you! Some other sensible people who saw The Hobbit for what it was! :)
There's a few supposed film students I know won't hear a bad word against it, I just can't fathom what they see in it.
More and more stuff is coming back to me about World War Z now. The fact that it takes exactly 12 seconds to turn into the undead. 12 seconds... Hahaha I've had sneezes that lasted longer than that... Such a bad movie. Only interesting bit was when they were filming it in Glasgow and turned the center of town into zombified Philadelphia
Re: Your votes for worst movies of the year? (spoilers)
The problem I ask is that with the Hobbit being released last year, can you truly say that it's the worst film of this year? I'm not defending it as I agree with all the points raised over this particular film. Needless to say that I am not planning on spending any more money on that franchise. (Famous last words I know).
2. Star Trek - into darkness (awful movie, awful casting, awful sound effects, awful editing).
3. The Great Gatsby - I just did not enjoy this...
4. Iron Man 3 - terrible plot, terribly put together and terribly dull.
5. Movie 43 - no redeeming features. Unfunny puerile trash. I usually love puerile trash.
This said I'm sure that World war z, die hard (whatever), RIPD, Percy Jackson 2 or Pacific Rim would have made the list, If I had seen them, but the trailer gave me enough to want to.
