Postcasts - Recommendations?
Couldn't see a thread that wasn't 2+ years old...
Started listening to more podcasts on my cycle into work, was wondering if anyone has any recommendations? Tech, Science, Gaming, General - I'm not really that fussed but being more amusing than serious is always a bonus. Has to be high quality, can't stand something that sounds like it was recorded with a pair of iPhone headphones.

Re: Postcasts - Recommendations?
If you like Ricky Gervais, Karl Pilkington or Steven Merchant -- check out The Ricky Gervais Show, Guide To... or the old XFM shows. Pure comedy gold.
Re: Postcasts - Recommendations?
You should try out the Roosterteeth podcast, they are generally focused around games and films, but they usually talk about general nonsense. They can be very funny although it may not be for everyone if you do not know a lot about Roosterteeth

Edit
[rant] I get annoyed with the BBC. They have such a huge range of shows but only allow a few for podcast. That and they went and blocked NerdoftheHerd's radio downloader. [/rant]
Sorry I haven't found a gaming podcast that I like.
Re: Postcasts - Recommendations?
The Geekbox (closely related to Rebel FM) have a couple of podcasts that might fit the bill, they cover, gaming, tech, t.v, movies and from time to time the odd board game. There's Weekend Confirmed which is run by ex-1up.com podcasters which has a very heavy focus on gaming. Aaaand last but not least there's the Smodcast network, which has a little something for everyone but is mostly comedy shows :)
Re: Postcasts - Recommendations?
If you want to try something a bit different give The Joe Rogan Experience a shot. American comedian, experimental drug user, MMA commentator offbeat political views.
Re: Postcasts - Recommendations?
The Crate and Crowbar is a very entertaining PC gaming podcast. It's done by the same guys that did the PC Gamer UK podcast, so it's basically a replacement for that.
Re: Postcasts - Recommendations?
Cheers for the recommendations guys, will check a few out :)
Re: Postcasts - Recommendations?
Hollywood Babble-On (Kevin Smith & Ralph Garmin) seriously funny centered around Hollywood gossip & news etc.
The Bugle - Sort of political/news comedy
AVForums Podcast - Tech, Gaming, AV etc and sometimes very funny
Football Ramble - Footy related and funny

I've only just noticed that I completely mistyped the thread title. Oops.
I'll take a look at those as well, cheers :)
Re: Postcasts - Recommendations?
The Ricky Gervais podcasts are great, but there haven't been any proper new ones for quite a while, I'm getting sick of listening to the same ones over and over. The "Guide to..."s are well worth tracking down.
If you've watched the animated Ricky Gervais show, you'll have heard most of the good bits - they just use the podcasts audio and put some sketches over the top for cheap recycled TV.
I find myself listening to podcasts of daily/weekly radio shows. they're pretty good once all the drivel advertising and low quality pop music has been cut out. If you grab an app like TuneIn you can browse them by category. I usually listen to Christian O'Connell and Frank Skinner for some fairly entertaining listening.
Going to try some of the gaming casts suggested here as well, never been able to find one that wasn't pants.

Re: Postcasts - Recommendations?
I'm loving the Ask Me Another quiz podcast at the moment, often funny and always interesting.
In terms of gaming I'm going to plug one I'm on, Cane and Rinse. It's a podcast where a team of older (youngest is mid-20's, oldest is 40+) look back at older games and focus on one specific game (or series) per show, discussing if it still holds up, the history, design, development, soundtrack, art style etc. It's proving to be quite popular now and many seem to like it, even if it is quite niche and not everybody's cup of tea. We don't look at anything new and certainly not before all praise has died down where we really judge it on its merits.
The range of games go from classics (Pac Man) through to more modern stuff (Red Dead Redemption, Dark Souls) and all stuff in between.
Re: Postcasts - Recommendations?
The Ask My Anything podcast is great, it's a quiz and is a mix of being both funny and interesting.
Another would be Cane and Rinse, which I'm part of. It's a gaming podcast which is aimed purely at the games. We'll take an episode (usually around 2 hours) and discuss all the elements of a single game from the past (we range from the likes of Pac-Man through to the more modern titles like Red Dead Redemption and Dark Souls - though never do we discuss a game when it's brand new) and see if it holds up, talk about its history, legacy, soundtrack, design, graphics etc. It's definitely niche but we're all very passionate about them and have a wide range of ages on the show (youngest is mid-20's, oldest is 40+) and like to be as fair as possible.
Re: Postcasts - Recommendations?
Some good recommendations here that I'll try out, and I reckoned I knew of most of the gaming podcasts out there!
Do try Midlife Gamer, and also Crankygamersuk. Both are funny and personable and just good company for the commute.
One Life Left is also a very long running podcast that's broadcast on a radio station in Bristol.
Any of those three will see you good I reckon.
