Thumbs up Edge of Tomorrow -

I went ahead and saw this film last night with a friend after hearing surprisingly good reviews about it.

Having watched the trailer a while back, I was not impressed at all. Just seemed like another Scifi flick with Tom Cruise running around.

However I left the cinemas utterly impressed. 9.5/10. Best film I've seen so far in 2014.

    Good:
Acting - solid performances by both Cruise and Blunt. Full metal bitch
Special Effects and CGI - excellent especially the designs and movement of the aliens.
Plot - Japan tier, was not surprised to find out afterwards that it was based on a Japanese light novel (All you need is kill).
Humour - Just the right amount to break the tension but not detract from the seriousness of the story.
Action - Mech suits vs mech squids. Enough said

    Bad:
    Nothing

    Mediocre:
Plot elements that are needed to drive the story forward - but don't make much sense or illogical.

    Closing points:
The best time travel film I've ever seen. Superb. Go watch this film!

When I saw it I went in with pretty low expectations but was pleasantly surprised - it was excellent!

This and X-Men DOFP were the two movies I enjoyed the most this year. It's a shame that Edge is not getting better business at the box office. But the movie is definitely in my buyers list when it comes out on blu-ray. Hopes it comes packed with extras.

I really enjoyed the film, but my mate hated it..guess it wasn't his thing. You need to be able to suspend your disbelief, it's sci-fi after all. The ending was a bit simple...like I've not seen that kind of finale a hundred times before, and actually I thought the CGI of the aliens when I first came across them was very obvious and actually I had to stifle a laugh. As time went on I got used to it, and the aliens began to integrate more seamlessly into the film so that I didn't find them so jarring.
As I say, I enjoyed the film..the plot was very original and this is what gets it brownie points from me.

    Re: Edge of Tomorrow -

The Alins had a very "manga" feel to me which I'm sure was intentional considering the original story is from a Japanese novel.
I went to see this and a "million ways to get bored in the west" and I'm happy I saw edge in second place cause it kicked ass and was a perfect way to end the day.

    I liked this too.

Basically ground hog day mixed in with starship troopers (or maybe the matrix).

Was really enjoying, especially the chopper bit but thought it went downhill a bit after that.

Been meaning to watch this, the vibe really reminds me of Starship Troopers as mentioned, and heard good things.

This film pleasantly surprised me, story line was a bit Over the top but they did it well. Could have been worse, oblivion anyone?

    Re: Edge of Tomorrow -

Having read the novel and manga adaptation, then seeing the appalling trailer I was of a mind to give this a VERY wide birth. That was until one of my friends pointed out that "she seems to shoot Tom Cruise in the head a lot". At which point it was "when shall I book tickets?"

Perhaps the most astonishing thing was that his character development from noob to pro was actually believable, and that it followed the original materials style as well.

I loved it. Not expecting too much from Cruise after Oblivion, but this was really good.

    Re: Edge of Tomorrow -

It's a very good film - my mate hated it but then he doesn't like sci-if and can't suspend his disbelief which is a prerequisite for the genre!
I thought the cgi of the aliens was poor at first but it got better. Funnily, I watched Oblivion last night and enjoyed that too - artistically it's impressive and it's mood was spot on. Don't be put off by the negative reviews and make your own mind up.

    Re: Edge of Tomorrow -

I really liked it, I remember reading something that compared it to video games in the sense that you die, come back and learn from your mistakes to push a bit further every time, maybe that was why I liked it so much =)

Really good film would highly recommend it =)

Just ordered the all you need is kill steelbook from Japan. Thought it was going to be rubbish, but it wasn't? Don't understand why this did so poorly at the box office. Maybe the English title.
