Collectable (?) cds and original jewel cases

I was slightly surprised earlier today to visit an online music store (ie a dedicated used music site as opposed to ebay etc), and read one dealer saying he did not cite case condition as jewel cases are swappable, and could if requested post without - as if the case is generally taken not to be a crucial part of a used item. I've always assumed if I'm buying 2nd hand that dealers sell on goods as is, otherwise everyone would be exchanging scratched cases for better ones in order to reclassify condition wouldn't they..?

Do you care as a rule if a cd is sold exactly as it was originally - or only if it's really really collectable?

I'd expect condition to refer only to the disc itself, especially as it is easy enough to take out the front and back covers and put them in a new case.

As long as everything was present and in the places that I'd expect a new version to be, I wouldn't mind about the case not being the same one it originally came in (better to have an intact case than a broken one).

Where the CDs came in special cases, ie Ministry of Sound Annuals, I would expect them to be sold on in original packaging. For normal CDs, not bothered...

Thanks. I have since seen an amazon seller actually putting 'all new jewel cases' in their listing so it's more of an accepted thing than I knew of I guess - just hadn't ever given it much thought. For me I'd sooner things that start off together stay together, whatever.. books in their jackets & so on - collectable or not. Looks like people are ok with it in the main though unless in the circs mentioned.
