Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

I wish I could forget all the Lord of the Rings films and watch them all again. Amazing films that people will still watch and talk about for many many years to come.

I doubt we will ever see anything quite like it again in our life time.

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

I really want to go and see it - when term has finished it's the first on my list. Even if only to see Tauriel

As to related stuff, I love the "Art & Design" books, there's one for each film and you get to see Weta's sketches, and read what their staff have to say. The ones for LoTR are even better as there was less CGI in the film and a lot more model making, so you get to see how all that was created. My dream job!

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Seen the film now (from a terrible seat in the cinema.....) and it's incredibly good

RE last post - I've got the last book for Art and Design for Christmas and it is a quality item!

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Would like to hear feedback form people who aren't REALLY REALLY into anything fantasy so going to give it a thumbs up no matter what. The first Hobbit movie bored me senseless, the second one was ,meh, okay. Not sure if I should invest many more hours into it or wait two years for it to be shown on TV.

None of the Hobbit is remotely in the same league as the LOTR movies though. Far, far, far too much gratuitous padding.

I hope to watch it in the next few days. I was the same as you, and having read the book, I'll be able to decide whether it's worth going now or waiting, for people contemplating whether to go.

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

I'll put this up first as a bit of a disclaimer: I'm a huge Tolkien fan so am massively biased.

The problem with the Hobbit trilogy (but not in my opinion!) is that a decent proportion of the padding has been put in to link these films to LoTR events to give a bit of continuity. There's also the fact that several of these extra scenes depend on more in-depth background knowledge to fully understand the implications, as such gained from reading the tome that is the Silmarillion (even I had a bit of a hard time with it!).

If you're not a Tolkien die-hard, I feel that this film would be best for you to wait for until it's out on DVD/ iTunes/ your medium of choice.

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

For such a short story they haven't half stretched it out making it into 3 films. i think they should have just made it into one or maybe two films at most.

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

I agree that they have stretched it out quite a lot. Part of the problem was that the Hobbit was a children's book so glossed many of the details.

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

i've watched all 6 tolkien movies, LOTR is obviously in a different league than the hobbit trilogy. but i do think the hobbit movies are worth a watch.
