There are many but I'll nominate Pirates of The Caribbean and Lord of the Rings. I haven't heard Requiem of a Dream's entire soundtrack but the titled song is epic.

Batman ( 89 version ) danny elfmans score
American Pie 1 + 2: Perfectly sums up being 18ish when the films came out!
Donnie Darko that one was the best for me ever.
I really enjoyed the music to The Social Network, admittidly I do love a bit of NIN though.
Karate Kid - Score and Soundtrack - where else do you find 80's pop hits and the pan flute somehow being the perfect fit?
Rocky - Doesn't really need explaining.
The Last of the Mohicans
And no-one's said Pirates of the Caribbean! (Although just about anything by Hans Zimmer will likely count).
The Goonies!

Can't believe nobody mentioned these, but the music films are a bit obvious perhaps :-
Almost Famous - excellent, semi-autobiographical rock and roll film. Philip Seymour Hoffman was great
Forrest Gump - loads of great 60s/70s songs. There's a special edition soundtrack which I think is worth tracking down because it includes Running On Empty
Hackers - HACK THE PLANET! ... whilst listening to The Prodigy
Royal Tannenbaums (spelling?) - didn't like the movie so much, but The Clash, The Ramones, Velvet Underground...
The Boat That Rocked - I have no idea what's on the soundtrack, but based on the film it must be good!
Spinal Tap - a rockumentary, if you will
Grosse Point Blank - Clash, GNR, Specials, The Jam ... Damn, I don't own this but now I have to get it! I think this one's better than High Fidelity.
The Bodyguard - doesn't "rock", but ... Whitney Houston had a great voice.
Finally, some YT links to classic film theme tunes :-
* Jurassic Park
* Back To The Future
* Indiana Jones
... and I think Hans Zimmer is overrated
The Matrix's 'Clubbed to Death' ; pretty unique for its time I'd say!
Must be the Writting's on the wall by Sam Smith!!!!! Writting's on the wall is the typical 007 theme song for the upcoming spectre omg, i feel so excited
the same!!!!!! but dear do you know how to free download the mv? im searching for a free downloader to help me download writings on the wall
Hang on, how on earth had this thread managed to make it through without any audio?
Alright, getting more specific - I think like a lot of people I found there something really interesting about the Rohan themes from TLTR: TT. It's not my favourite piece of music by any stretch but it's just an intriguing combination of nobility, darkness, light, starkness and strength.

And then some of Morricone's work on The Mission is truly beautiful - wondrous and uplifting - classic piece - Gabriel's Oboe - for me just one of those pieces that's always better than I remember it.

Oh and no-one's mentioned the music from Star Wars!
Might seem a bit over-familiar but in terms of soundtracks I'd have to say it might be the supreme example. It's so iconic, so recognisable, and yet, when you're watching the movies it only enhances the visuals, it works with them, it doesn't overtake them. It's not the first music I'd reach for just to put on because, in my mind, it's so 'Star Wars', but perhaps the point. I mean the music itself is excellent, if I could strip away the movies from the music it would be a wonderful experience in itself, and yet it serves its purpose in the movies perfectly.

Just by way of contrast, here's the visuals mashed up against the MacGuyver theme. It's incredible how the music affected the 'feel' of the visuals.

Soul Plane Soundtrack
Bit of a recent one but watched The Martian and thought the music choices in that were great, especially when Starman started playing!
