Which sound track(s) make the movie for you? In the sense that, without it, the movie wouldn't be anywhere near as good.
A few personal favourites would have to be Tron: Legacy and of course Lord of the Rings.

Both great choices! I have always been a fan of Hans Zimmer's music in movies for example the Broken Arrow ost.
Can tell you're a LOTR fan :P
Trying to think of other films, but none come to mind. I suppose you could count jaws as one of them.
Man on Fire
Requiem for a Dream
Has to be said I love the soundtrack to Rock of Ages, Catherine Zeta Jones doesn't half belt out the classic Pat Benetar song Hit me with your best shot, love the movie, just plain fun and the music really picks you up (omitting the terrible Z Boys bit of course, that song is on the soundtrack also! ).
I love the music on Revenge of the Nerds
There is also Blues Brothers, The Untouchables, Beverly Hills Cop, Back to the Future & Blade Runner to add to my favorites.
Ack, too many to list given I love soundtracks.
But, that said - gotta agree with Tron, it's a great score. The Dark Knight is a favourite too. :)
Gladiator is the one that springs to mind first for where the soundtrack really lifts the film to another level. Certainly agree with LotR and The Dark Knight too, although they're great movies for other reasons as well. :)
Blimey how did I forget Gladiator?
Sound Track I believe to be the songs used in a film, whereas the Motion Picture Score is more the orchestral ones...
Soundtracks:
- Top Gun
- Flashdance
- Footloose
- Blues Brothers
- The Breakfast Club
- Rock Star
Scores:
- Spacehunter
- Clash Of The Titans (Harry Hamelin version, thankyew)
- Star Trek(s)
- Star Wars
- Blade Runner
The soundtrack of The Fountain is really haunting.
Virgin Suicides
Trainspotting
About a Boy
In The Mood For Love (Wong Kar Wai)
French Kiss
Platoon
Apocalypse Now
:)
Human Traffic - the music fits the scenes and the time. Haven't watched it for a while now so it'll probably by really anachronistic...
Ferris Bueller's Day Off - just for the Yello track.
Purple Rain
Superman
Apocalypse Now
Pulp Fiction
There can be only one.....
literally...
Queen... Kind of Magic.. from Highlander
that is IT
as an addition.. the best movie SCORE I have it Kick Ass: The Score..
(note.. NOT the sound track album.. the SCORE..)
its awesome!
Sam Smith - Writing's On The Wall
There are many but I'll nominate Pirates of The Caribbean and Lord of the Rings. I haven't heard Requiem of a Dream's entire soundtrack but the titled song is epic.
Batman ( 89 version ) danny elfmans score
American Pie 1 + 2: Perfectly sums up being 18ish when the films came out!
Donnie Darko that one was the best for me ever.
I really enjoyed the music to The Social Network, admittidly I do love a bit of NIN though.
Karate Kid - Score and Soundtrack - where else do you find 80's pop hits and the pan flute somehow being the perfect fit?
Rocky - Doesn't really need explaining.
The Last of the Mohicans
And no-one's said Pirates of the Caribbean! (Although just about anything by Hans Zimmer will likely count).
The Goonies!
Can't believe nobody mentioned these, but the music films are a bit obvious perhaps :-
Almost Famous - excellent, semi-autobiographical rock and roll film. Philip Seymour Hoffman was great :(
Forrest Gump - loads of great 60s/70s songs. There's a special edition soundtrack which I think is worth tracking down because it includes Running On Empty
Hackers - HACK THE PLANET! ... whilst listening to The Prodigy
Royal Tannenbaums (spelling?) - didn't like the movie so much, but The Clash, The Ramones, Velvet Underground...
The Boat That Rocked - I have no idea what's on the soundtrack, but based on the film it must be good!
Spinal Tap - a rockumentary, if you will
Grosse Point Blank - Clash, GNR, Specials, The Jam ... Damn, I don't own this but now I have to get it! I think this one's better than High Fidelity.
The Bodyguard - doesn't "rock", but ... Whitney Houston had a great voice.
Finally, some YT links to classic film theme tunes :-
* Jurassic Park
* Back To The Future
* Indiana Jones
... and I think Hans Zimmer is overrated :P
The Matrix's 'Clubbed to Death' ; pretty unique for its time I'd say!
Must be the Writting's on the wall by Sam Smith!!!!! Writting's on the wall is the typical 007 theme song for the upcoming spectre :p omg, i feel so excited:iloveyou:
the same!!!!!! but dear do you know how to free download the mv? im searching for a free downloader to help me download writings on the wall
Hang on, how on earth had this thread managed to make it through without any audio?
Alright, getting more specific - I think like a lot of people I found there something really interesting about the Rohan themes from TLTR: TT. It's not my favourite piece of music by any stretch but it's just an intriguing combination of nobility, darkness, light, starkness and strength.

And then some of Morricone's work on The Mission is truly beautiful - wondrous and uplifting - classic piece - Gabriel's Oboe - for me just one of those pieces that's always better than I remember it.

Oh and no-one's mentioned the music from Star Wars!
Might seem a bit over-familiar but in terms of soundtracks I'd have to say it might be the supreme example. It's so iconic, so recognisable, and yet, when you're watching the movies it only enhances the visuals, it works with them, it doesn't overtake them. It's not the first music I'd reach for just to put on because, in my mind, it's so 'Star Wars', but perhaps the point. I mean the music itself is excellent, if I could strip away the movies from the music it would be a wonderful experience in itself, and yet it serves its purpose in the movies perfectly.

Just by way of contrast, here's the visuals mashed up against the MacGuyver theme. It's incredible how the music affected the 'feel' of the visuals.

Soul Plane Soundtrack
Bit of a recent one but watched The Martian and thought the music choices in that were great, especially when Starman started playing! :clapping:
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells - fantastic sound track, really captures the mood of the film and the characters in the respective scenes. Great CD to keep in the car as well, as the CD includes alot of the snappy one liners before the tracks play.
The score from It Follows by Disasterpeace has been my favourite from this year.
Hans Zimmer - Time (and others too) from Inception is probably the best in my opinion.
Some great soundtrack in Mr. Robot tv show this year.
Big fan of Jurassic Park, or the classic The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Quite a few nice soundtracks in, Guardians of the Galaxy. Despicable me, Happy- Pharrell Williams!
Garden State has a cracking soundtrack, or if I just want to relax Lost In Translation is always good.
