    RIP Radio one?

Sorry this is just an afternoon rant. Have just read about Zane Lowe departing Radio one:
    http://www.theguardian.com/music/201...ndon-radio1-la

He is imo their last decent DJ and could also be said their last true DJ. Have some good memories of hearing new bands and tunes on his show, the only show that seemed to be alive and have the spirit of what Radio should be all about, discovery and uncontrolled by the music industry.
But this does now mean there is no one decent to tune into on R1, personally cant stand the rest of the cobbled together hosts. Scott Mills passed his sell by date long ago, Grimshaw has nothing between his legs or ears, Greg James is about as funny as a room full of onion peelers and the others appear as robots. R1 extra is just a joke.
So for me this is RIP R1

    Re: RIP Radio one?

Radio one seemed to make a conscious effort when they employed nick grimshaw and Greg james to appeal to the teen market instead of the 20/30 somethings.

To me Zane always seemed like a modern day john peel. he seemed to be passionate about the music as opposed to the likes of Chris Moyles who was more interested in inflating his own ego.
I remember when Zane had the exclusive first play of American idiot. As soon as it was over he decided that it would be his encore song for the night and played it straight away again. Maybe it was scripted but to me it always seemed like he was doing things on his own terms.

He'll be missed but then again i stopped listening to radio one years ago.

    Re: RIP Radio one?

I stopped listening to Radio 1 years ago. But then all the DJs that I liked on R1 shifted to R2, so I kind of get Radio 1 mid-90s, which is cool.

yeah I think its the only audience they can brainwash collectively with the music companies.

Agreed it seemed like he was calling the shots as far as possible, not relying on some producer or a load of music companies. Few stations play something that's initially off soundcloud et al... everyone else just seems scripted and dull.
I guess I'm just going the more modern route of playing my playlists through Bluetooth. Which is fine but it is nice to hear other peoples choices as that's really how you get to listen to new music. You listen to any other show and its recycled for a whole month because they have to play what they're told

I'm not a big radio listener but Annie Mac who I believe is taking over the Zane slot always seems to have a good show.

    Re: RIP Radio one?

I stopped listening the day Moyles said those who work in retail are lazy and have the easiest jobs. Radio one used to be awesome but I don't even listen to radio at all anymore.

    Re: RIP Radio one?

Most radio stations suck and radio one was the worst. Same songs played on every show and most hosts as entertaining as wacking your hand with a hammer. Why Zane is joining apple is beyond me? Radio 1 died years ago when the pop music became nothing more than a teeny boppers playground. I blame Simon Cowell..
