Recently I was trying to track down an anime movie. It's a few years old and was surprisingly hard to get hold of. Admittedly I'm in Gibraltar, so the 3rd party sellers on Amazon wouldn't ship it here (sometimes I wonder where people think Gibraltar is located), and other sites had it only at very high cost. The Blu-Ray was available in places and some local shops could bring the Blu-Ray in but I don't own a Blu-Ray player so that wasn't an option. I would have preferred a digital download but I couldn't find anywhere that offered it in that format.
In the end I found the movie for sale as DVD, at a reasonable price, via Australian site www.madman.com.au in their anime section. Actually seems like a decent site overall, so I might start shopping there if I can't find anywhere better.
Still, it got me wondering what the best places were for Anime/Manga purchases and, most of all, if there is anywhere out there selling anime as a digital download. iTunes offer a limited selection, although we all know the sort of DRM associated with that. Amazon don't have a massive selection either. Are digital downloads of anime a bit of a missing niche right now - or has someone found a corner of the internet where there are actually LEGAL digital downloads available?
