It's hard to find simple instrumental background EDM
Almost everything I try just goes off in a weird direction. And then other people in the office just look over with that kind of 'what the heck is this sound polluting the airwaves?' look.
I'm looking for basic background-able EDM beats where the artist is not trying to push the envelope.
Any recommendations?
e.g Imagine a radio station that was just lots more of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeZG0viNAjM

I was about to say Daft Punk, then I clicked your link ;)
I'd go old school electronica. Giorgio Moroder, Jean Michel Jarre etc.
Edit: Have you checked out Electronic Beats radio?

Some bands/performers come to mind :
Synergy
Steve Joliffe
Mark Jenkins
Klaus Schultz
Dave Greenslade
David Vorhaus
as well as the more well known - JM Jarre, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream.

Maybe I just need to buy nice headphones so I'm less self-conscious about it.
I will listen to more Giorgio Moroder, only have 1 track so far

Re: It's hard to find simple instrumental background EDM
Wow, amazing.
di.fm has at least 50 channels, and it's hard to find one that isn't annoying. It's amazing to me that EDM artists have trouble staying away from annoying shouty samples and distracting instruments. I genuinely think that if I could be bothered I could learn from scratch how to produce better a better 1 hour mix than any of these channels.
Anyway, rant. But wow, if there was a bookashade.fm or something that would be good, but I've dug around youtube, tunein radio, Apple Music playlists, mixcloud. All I can find is loud/splashy/annoying EDM. No one makes nice smooth long mixes without jumpy parts.
Re: It's hard to find simple instrumental background EDM
Do you mean EDM - as in Dance / high tempo stuff? A lot of 'modern' EDM seems gimmicky to me though I still listen to and enjoy all sorts including 'car alarm music', as my wife calls dubstep (though a lot of early dubstep is largely instrumental - though most radio stations that play dubstep will waffle and 'MC' over everything...)
If you want pure instrumental stuff you'll probably have to go lower tempo (e.g. Nightmares on Wax, Bonobo, etc - avoiding most of the The Orb and Aphex Twin if you really hate 'daft samples', though I like The Orb at least in part because of the daft samples) or maybe dig through a lot of older trance music to get higher tempo stuff without daft samples in (though I doubt you'll avoid daft instruments). Or maybe embrace proper house music - most of it has vocals but usually half decent ones rather than repeated samples.
Re: It's hard to find simple instrumental background EDM
Youtube has quite a few mixes
I searched "EDM instrumental" and quite a lot comes back.
Is this the sort of thing you are after?

Heres a whopper! some 8 hour Study mix lol seems quite chilled and backgroundy to me from what ive listened to so far.

Re: It's hard to find simple instrumental background EDM
A friend of mine pointed me to Soundcloud mixes titled "Slowdance"
They number them SD001 to ~SD160 and onwards
So searching "SD001" gets you to a ~1hr mix to start with. Fits the bill, and FREE.

Update. I have for a few months now been using this mix as background music, I run an EQ where I drop off most of the treble and mid so it doesn't clash with "thinking space"

Re: It's hard to find simple instrumental background EDM
Probably not what you're looking for but check out Winged Victory for the Sullen. Lovely, melancholic background music.
Re: It's hard to find simple instrumental background EDM
Update.
Inexplicably, Slowdance user on SoundCloud removed lots of mixes, including my favourites. I had some foresight months ago to download the MP3s in case something like this happened.
I have since been curating playlists on Youtube and Soundcloud of music mixes which I can play on the background and have no annoying parts or annoying vocals etc.
It's of various genres but mainly EDM.
Youtube playlist (best to use the shuffle button):

Soundcloud playlist:

The other recommendation I have is Doyeq, these guys produce very easy to listen to minimal techno.

Feel free to share these elsewhere, I've taken time to curate them and it's pretty good, especially the Soundcloud one.
Re: It's hard to find simple instrumental background EDM
In my day it was called ambient.
