BBC's Top Gear 2016 refresh
Thought I'd start a separate Top Gear thread to avoid confusion with the Amazon edition.
Latest news appears to be Matt LeBlanc is joining the cast of Top Gear.

I have an odd feeling they may be doing guest presenters like HIGNFY, I just can't see LeBlanc being full time.
I don't want to make judgement too soon but they already have someone I just can't listen to or watch...
Re: BBC's Top Gear 2016 refresh
I think Matt LB will do a better job than CE tbh.

Re: BBC's Top Gear 2016 refresh
This will be second to the new Amazon one. Top Gear was great because of the chemistry with Clarkson/Hammond/May.
That will move with them. Stig is the only thing missing.
Re: BBC's Top Gear 2016 refresh
Reminder: Nobody has ever beaten Matt LeBlanc at Star In A Reasonably Priced Car. He's not someone I would ever have thought was being considered, but that's an undeniable credential
Re: BBC's Top Gear 2016 refresh
I had to google who he was...
why didn't you just say Joey?
I feel a car crash (no pun intended )coming on.
Why choose Chris Evans and Joey? I'm confused... the HAD a chance to make a show about cars for normal people.....

Short version? Because they're massive petrolheads with multi-million-pound collections

Chris evans will be good not sure on joey mind
Re: BBC's Top Gear 2016 refresh
It was originally a show about cars for normal people, and it got canned because hardly anyone watched it.
News is Joey's already been sacked - he's always stuck in second gear. Boom boom.
Re: BBC's Top Gear 2016 refresh
Heard him on R2 this morning chatting with CE, I think if they ditched the idiots they had on the USA top gear then LeBlanc would be great on there - he really knows what he's talking about and loves his motors.
But him and CE didn't seem to have much spark from the chat they had. He's also going to have to go a bit Joey to slot in to the TG style. And I don't think he wants to do that.

Just listening to this is cringeworthy...

The interviews i've seen him do he's always been wooden and monotone. Which is a shame. I'll give it a few shows but Matt LeBlanc doesn't fill me with confidence.
Re: BBC's Top Gear 2016 refresh
So Joey from friends and someone who can't drive and talk at the same time... oh dear. At least between them they have as much personality as one normal human.

This ^ I'm hoping he's better with a script.

dunno if you boys (and girls) ever watch Motor Trend Channel on Youtube....but you should

OK, they're devotedly into American cars, but it's great TV, well made and beautifully filmed in many places.
and Randy is quite a quick old boy
Re: BBC's Top Gear 2016 refresh
Wow, everyone is so negative. I didn't think the interview was cringe worthy at all really. I also don't want to see a show about normal people and normal cars, I want to see supercars and other things I'm unlikely to ever afford. If I want reviews on boring things there is plenty of youtube channels, websites and magazines for that.
As long as the people on the show know a thing or two about what they are talking about and have a bit of passion for it, then they get the benefit of the doubt... at least to begin with.
I think people forget the early days of the 'new' top gear and how rough around the edges it was, especially when James May joined, which was quite a bit into it IIRC.
At least let them release an episode before you condemn it to the Television graveyard.
Re: BBC's Top Gear 2016 refresh
I think people are forgetting why clarkson was sacked... the other left of their own choice. I'm actually looking forward to the new presenters. I just hope they continue to do the crazy challenges; where they heavily modify their cars etc.

I agree, but I still think Fifth Gear fits your "show about cars for normal people" bill.
It's a much better car show than (the new) Top Gear was while Top Gear was a much better entertainment show than Fifth Gear.

Indeed, 5th gear was about cars with presenters. Top gear was about presenters with cars as props.

Really? I always found the supercar tests the most boring bits. The normal cars were much more interesting. Not just blowing them up and pushing them off cliffs either (poor CX). Remember the fiesta review where they took it just about everywhere - including on one of the Navy's landing craft.
It would be nice if they got someone more down to earth as a third presenter though. I wonder if Victoria Coren has any interest in cars.

Television graveyard is a tad over dramatic..... Mabee you should send in a tape and audition, you've already shown more passion that Matt LeBlanc ever will ... ;)
Just a joke.....

I don't know about everyone else, but for me, the BBC condemned it to my personal TV graveyard the moment they appointed CE. There's just something about him that has the same effect on me as the noise you get scraping fingernails down a blackboard. He makes my teeth itch.
I'd quite happily give the new program from the old team a try, regardless of why it was cancelled on the BBC, but not if I have to take out a subscription service I otherwise neither want nor need.
I've watched TG since the current format started, and indeed quite a bit before that, BUT .... it's never been a "must have" for me. It's been a pleasant way to spend an hour, but there's plenty of other shows I enjoy as much, and a fair few I enjoy more.
So while I'd prefer Clarkson hadn't lost it and bopped wotsisname, and no, I certainly don't condone that (or any other form of bullying, let alone violence at work), and without that I'd no doubt have carried on watching the old TG, given that it did happen and that's not an option, neither of the alternatives on offer appeal to me, for different reasons.
And life's too short and complicated for me to worry about TG more than that.
Will it end up in a TV graveyard? Don't know, and don't really care. The version I enjoyed is already dead and buried. If people watch either new show and enjoy it, great. If not? Oh well. But either way doesn't affect me because neither interest me enough to watch, if it means putting up with CE or subscribing to do to it.
I guess my stance is summed up as ... Que sera, sera.
