I have been thinking about getting Netflix but have been reading about the blocking (and potentially banning) of the US site from outside the US.
Can someone who is (or has been) doing this let me know what the current state of play is please?

I was using a VPN to watch a few shows from the US site but yes recently it has been picked up and blocked. I hear that some VPN services are still getting through (specially if you have one solely for yourself), but the list is shrinking. I'm not sure if they are also now checking where the logged-in account is registered as well to see if it matches the IP.
There are a few other tricks floating around that I've not tested (obfsproxy rings a bell), but apart from the US office there's nothing I feel like I'm missing out on, so not a lot of motivation.
Edit: I wasn't banned, you just get a message in the client saying that a proxy/VPN has been detected and you can't watch anything.
Yeah I tried to do it with both Netflix & Amazon Prime using VPN's setup on a dedicated router and in all instances with multiple VPN providers access was blocked, same message as virtuo. Gave up in the end.
I used to access Netflix with a VPN, but it became such a chore activating it and deactivating it that I just stopped, and this was before the crackdown on geo-blocking bypass methods. I actually think the UK selection isn't really too bad, but maybe I'm just easily pleased. The fact I share the cost with family might also have something to do with it. Last time I tried the US version it didn't work for me with PIA vpn.
Same here it used to work now it dont :(
