Re: Star Trek:Discovery and The Orville - what do you think about them??
I love the Orville more than STD ( lol )
I also preferred Enterprise more than this pile of crap called STD. I don't know why Trekkies moaned in the past when Enterprise was being aired. This caused the show to be cancelled and we have not had a Star Trek TV show for 13 years!

Enterprise was rubbish, as was most of the latter part of voyager. Discovery is the best Trek since DS9 finished.

I didn't really like Enterprise either

I ditched both shows after half a dozen episodes. Poor fare.
Re: Star Trek:Discovery and The Orville - what do you think about them??
Season 2 of ST:D has been a lot better, they have tried to fix some of the mistakes before even if the plot is sometimes taking giant leaps of faith and coincidences.
Re: Star Trek:Discovery and The Orville - what do you think about them??
I've completed Season 2 now, and for the most part, I enjoyed it. Not the same enjoyment level for me as previous Trek shows though.
I do get that TV shows have to be more "current" with 2019, diversity and all that, but the big issue I have is that they make them over-complicated. You're meant to try and figure out what's going on, which is fine, but if it's never really explained in the end, I feel a bit left out to dry.
So many shows are like this nowadays. The Walking Dead is a prime example. They keep doing flashbacks and flashforwards all the time, and now they seemed to have jumped ahead 4 years or so. You're meant to draw your own conclusions without really understanding the story that they're trying to tell. I really don't like this approach. I want to understand what's going on all the way through the show. TV should be easy, enjoyable viewing!

Star Trek has always been diverse, hence the 60s original consisting of 2 Americans, an alien, a Scotsman, a Japanese (only 20 years after WW2) a Russian (at the height of the cold War,) and a black woman (just after the end of segregation.)
As for the mystery thing, in this case I think its just leaving a cliff hanger for season 3 and ensuring the writers have as much freedom as they want for the next series as they can pretty much do anything from there.
Re: Star Trek:Discovery and The Orville - what do you think about them??
The way it ended seemed to indicate that was the last one of the current timeline.
I guess they could do Season 3 set in the future which would tie in with all the current timelines and not mess anything up. Most of the core crew went to the future.
Re: Star Trek:Discovery and The Orville - what do you think about them??
it took me far too long to realise that Dr Claire Finn in the Orville, played Kassidy Yates Sisko from Deep Space 9. figured it out around episode 8 of season 2.
also found it funny that Season 2 Episode 3 - Home contained both Voyagers doctor and Enterprises Doctor.
and that Voyagers Tuvok was in an episode too.
wonder how many other Star Trek actors are in the orville?
as for Discovery.
theres some background information from Short Treks https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9059594...nm_flmg_act_12 that expands some characters.
need to check if theres any Orville characters in star trek..
