Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Rules:
- It has to be UK only - no VPNs etc allowed
- You have to give a series name and a 1 line synopsis.
I'll go first.
Designated Survivor - Kiefer Sutherland is the sole survivor of an explosion on the US capitol and becomes president. Intrigue and conspiracy follow.
Breaking Bad - Dying high school chemist starts manufacturing crystal meth.
Better call Saul - Spin off of the above based around Walt's shady lawyer.
Star Trek Discovery - Star Trek for the new generation - way darker than previously
House of Cards - Kevin Spacey is a senator trying to gain power in the US government
Stranger Things - A more adult version of The Goonies....
What else is worth a watch?

Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
True Detective (Season 1) - two US Detectives, working together past and present, act their socks off and utterly hook you into the best story you're likely to ever see in one season.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
ALL THE MARVEL STUFF. Perhaps its just me but I love them all :D
Luke Cage and Dare Devil were probably the best of the bunch so far.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Godless - An outlaw seeks biblical vengeance on the man who betrayed him and all those whom help him including the local townsfolk, which mainly comprises of widows.
Shooter - Ryan Phillippe reprises the Bob Lee Swagger, US army sniper role in the TV spin off of the big screen film.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
The Punisher - a revenge story. Gory as all hell. Excellent.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
13 Reasons Why - Teenager commits suicide, but creates a set of tapes before hand detailing the reasons for her choices, focusing on a particular person each episode and how that person betrayed her, with the cumulative effect on her well being being the reason for her course of action. It's more of a teen drama with a serious subject matter, but I really enjoyed it regardless.

TLDR, see above :)

Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Scorpion - A group of super-geniuses work as contractors to the NSA to help save the day, working alongside an NSA handler as well as a waitress-turned-interpreter (helping regular people understand the super-geniuses and vice-versa) who also has a super-genius son.
I would have also liked to suggest Chuck (and would have included a synopsis of course), but can't as that isn't currently available on either service.

Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Orphan Black: Girl watches someone who looks just like her step off a platform in front of an oncoming train, takes over her identity and then it starts getting weird.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Frontier an awesome series about colonial america.
-Marco polo an interesting series about the life of marco polo.
The marvel stuff minus the horrendous iron fist.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Oh another one to add:
The Good Place - a dark comedy with a weird twist, but don't read anything about it before watching.

I gave a series name and used 1 line. I think you need to read the rules :)

Depends, I read one line to mean one sentence. b0redom needs to rule or I need to step off my pedantic box.
*Edit* - Having said that then b0redom has broken his own rules under my interpretation with his first review :wallbash: :).............jim slinks quietly off to the corner of the forum

Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Vikings - Amazon - The series follows Ragnar, a Viking chieftain who, along with his brother Rollo and wife Lagertha, plots to become king.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Norsemen(on netflix) a comedy about vikings which I found hilarious.

Might I add that there is soooooo much more to Vikings than that. +1 from me. Can't believe I didn't stick this in my list.

I have to admit I also watched Chuck, but wouldnt recomend it to anyone else. It was cool at times but it dragged on way too long IMO and became more of a chick flick than a comedy spy adventure.

Iron fist wasn't THAT bad. Definitely the worst of the bunch but its still better than almost every DC TV universe show. I wouldn't bother watching any of those really, especially Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow (A.K.A lets go back in time and judge the morality of every historical event based on modern "S.J.W" principles). The Flash, Arrow and Gotham are just about palatable if you're really bored.

Shhh, I may have copied the synopsis from somewhere ;). I struggled to make only a single line.
Question to b0redom, is this thread just for Series listings or films as well?

Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Black Mirror - Series 1: A dark dark look at human behaviour under various circumstances based on technology and social attitudes. in the UK. I have made that sound dire and it's not, it's awesome

For me iron fist was just sooo cringey and felt badly written. I mean the guy supposedly trained to be a calm focused warrior etc but lost his temper like a 5 year old constantly.

Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
The Expanse (on Netflix) - based on the books and done very well for a sci fi series, loved it

Seconded, not sure how I forgot that one.

Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
What Happened to Monday - In a world with an enforced 1 child per family, seven sisters survive by sharing a single identity- weird wacky and quite violent !

Films too. I am spending quite a bit of time sitting on trains at the moment, so chewing through a lot of telly, hence the OP.

Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Is NowTV allowed?
You, Me and The Apocalypse: (black comedy) Meteor extinction event can bring out the best but generally the worst in people.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Luke Cage is probably the least superhero'y of all the superhero tv stuff I've seen so far but very very good.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Stranger Things Season 1 & 2
Lillehammer (3 Seasons)
Daredevil
Luke Cage
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Dark (Tv series on Netflix - Like a German language Stranger things, with more of a Sci-Fi element.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Amazon: This is Us: only seen the first couple episodes, but totally hooked so far. Quirky series about a family.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Oh and Iron Fist was ridiculously cringe worthy and bad. Watched it all anyway, but wow...
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
The Dragon Prince. Great fantasy animated show on Netflix. It's got the same head writer as Avatar: The Last Airbender - Aaron Ehasz.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Just thought I'd mention an intriguing 3 part murder documentary on Netflix:
Don't **** with cats.
This is in no way child friendly and recommend taking the (18) rating seriously on this occasion for any parents.
I don't recall reading about this at all considering how viral they claimed it went.
Best documentary I've watched from Netflix ignoring the unfortunate subject matter. Well presented and good production all round

Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
2 long series might be worth a binge. As there might be some people with lots of time on thier hands soon.....
Parks and recreation.
US version of The office.
Both on Amazon Prime.
Found them both to be funny. And remember, just as the US office isn't as good as the UK one. Doesn't mean it's not worth watching ;-) It's certinaly more slapstick than the UK one......

Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Currently watching Picard and The Expanse. Picard is annoying as they are going old school and releasing an episode every week.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Amazon Prime: two I recently finished:
Outlander - An English combat nurse from 1945 is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743. Based on a book, surprised how good it turned out.
Goliath - A disgraced lawyer, now an ambulance chaser, gets a case that could bring him redemption or at least revenge on the firm which expelled him.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon

Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
Would recommend:
The Witcher - might inspire you to play the games or if you have already replay them.
Izombie - eats brains, solves crimes..
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
I was actually really surprised with this one!.. didn't have anything to watch but gave it a chance mainly because of enjoying avatar when I was younger and really enjoyed it!
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
For any fans of basketball, the Last Dance is brilliant so far. It focuses on the 1997–98 Chicago Bulls - Jordan, Pippen, Rodman etc

Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
If you like crime dramas, Bosch is a pretty good show. And I think Titus Welliver is good in most things he does.
-
Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
+1 for Bosch. I love the books and the series is great too. I have to pace myself otherwise I burn through a season in a couple of days.

Re: Stuff worth watching on Netflix/Amazon
I know it's being hyped within an inch of its life at the moment, but Afterlife by Ricky Gervais is some of the best TV I've watched in quite a while. It's on Netflix.
