    Youtube curios

I think YouTube is a great resource. It's almost indescribable- the amount of content on there.

When playing 'random YT' I often find real curios> This one is for those who've gone beyond dolphins, meditation with great white sharks. I find it mesmerising, and also it's Live. From explore.org which have a whole series of Live cams in bizarre places.

I thought this was a simulator too far at first, but it's a great idea.

    Re: Youtube curios

I think many non gamers under estimate it as a cultural phenomena. But as Slavoj Zizek points out it takes in more money worldwide than cinema and tv series combined. So not only is it a cultural force, it's influence can be seen on other forms like film.

He also believes that gaming affects the way we live out our real lives. I enjoy his work as he always has something interesting to say; here referencing, de Sade, Kant. What's curious is listening to a philosophy of gaming spoken over gameplay from violent games.

I think YT is like the punk of media. Open to anyone to have a go. I mean rather than watch a polished, produced and censored, nature programme made by the BBC, I'd rather watch footage filmed by two Canadians of a lion stalking a warthog. It's just more real.

    Re: Youtube curios

Okay so that was the philosophy of gaming. After claims about shooter games encouraging real shooters, I've been trying to get some psychological studies on the effects of gaming. I have studied the psychology behind 'Going Postal' type shooters, and a quick look online provided evidence that there are slim links to shooter games(20% of shooters have played video games).

According to Patrick Markey who wrote Moral Combat, it's partly that the older generation are scared of something they don't see any value in(and it suits the NRA and politicians funded by the gun lobby to deflect blame from accessibility to guns).

I enjoy some TED talks, you learn something in an entertaining way. Here Daphne Bevelier explains what she has learnt from testing gamers. She claims gamers have better vision and related cognitive abilities; are able to spot subtle details, are able to focus better and resolve conflicts, have better tracking ability and during multi tasking are able to switch more easily. To try a couple of these tests go to 5.35 mins in. Particularly the tracking one where if you do as she says and don't focus on individual dots> shows up your new super powers.

Okay I'm widening the sites for good content. I'm not sure how you'd describe the content of Vimeo, but these fractal animations are mindblowing. By Julius Horsthuis, he also has some VR projects.

    Re: Youtube curios

I think one problem with forums is people take it way too seriously.

Here's a clip of DJ Yoda mixing and scratching the DMC championships. DJ Yoda uses four decks, two for the audio, two the visuals. Here he's taken the history of the DMC championships and mixed the best DJ's and scratchers.

The way to view this is; what happens when you give some guys a couple of turntables and a mixer. They create whole new musical forms, and mix tracks from all different genres together. Humans again showing how creative and resourceful they can be while having fun.

    This short film(from several years ago) explains how the;

Propaganda incl. fake news, media hype , spin, smear campaigns and other political strategies that now bombard us in the run up to elections; has evolved. Vladislav Surkov who used to orchestrate Putin's campaigns. He uses ideas from the art world(where illusion and challenging the perception of reality is standard), and used them for political purposes.

This is some beautiful and dramatic filming of the Kilauea Hawaii lava flows. There's something mesmerising about molten rock bubbling to the surface.

YouTube is a friend, YouTube is a music box, YouTube is a radio, YouTube is a movie theatre, YouTube is the gate of the world of tutorials, YouTube is a source of informations, YouTube is a key of jealousy... like this video. I keep watching this video and kill myself with jealousy wishing I could play like this.

I used to think that Youtube was about valve amps. Dunno why, but I've changed my mind (mainly I guess because most all of my 4-5 valve amps keep breaking and it's getting annoying - not to mention wasted).

Here's a few videos I watched recently about the Ghost Cities of China. Quite fascinating but sickening at the same time especially when the UK is so short on housing and the government seem hell bent on building posh apartments for millions rather than affordable housing.

    Re: Youtube curios

A new(ish) documentary series on YT called Free Documentaries

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCij...fkxCAZwkiuWqtQ

I've watched a couple, great production, my only critiques are the narration is a little amateurish and when they translate it's like the narrator is reading a story book although creates a bit of humour.
But interesting topics and good all told, easy watching for a Sunday.

    Re: Youtube curios

A bit of nostalgia I stumbled upon 'The Dick Cavett Show', a 60s/70s/80s talkshow from before my time.
Some interesting interviews with a number actors/musicians/celebrities that have since passed or now very old. An era I wasn't part of.

My only wish is they'd put the full interviews on as opposed to snippets, but some worthy material:
