star wars last chapter: contains spoilers
So I just watched the last star wars (part 9). I'm a bit disappointed with some horrific plot holes and basic failings vs previous. Have others seen it yet? If so what did you think? Discuss away. I need somewhere to vent the frustration of this.
As the title this thread will contain spoilers so stop reading now if you've not seen it yet.
Re: star wars last chapter: contains spoilers
Thought everyone stopped watching with Jar Jar Binks TBH
Re: star wars last chapter: contains spoilers
A fair comment. At least it was mostly better than "meesa jarjar ruin film Bink's"
Re: star wars last chapter: contains spoilers
I seem to be one of the only people who actually enjoyed it. I didn't go in as a raging Star Wars geek determined to hate it though. It was just like all the others. Bad guy, lots of shooting, things explode. Good guys win.
Re: star wars last chapter: contains spoilers
It was rather messy.
It tried to fix the problems created by the previous two, as well as tell its own part of the story, and to tick all the fan-service boxes that have hung around since 1977, all squeezed in to a couple of hours...
Few too many predictable bits, really.

Disappointed with the entire sequel trilogy. Poorly conceived from the get go.
Episode 9 was better than 8 which is, IMO, the worst movie in the entire saga. The sequels would have been far superior had Abrams been permitted to do all three movies since it would have at least allowed continuity and cohesion. Nevertheless, the sequels feel more like some sort of 'What if', easter egg, Star Wars tribute material than a legitimate continuation of the saga - and poorly written material at that.
As you said, ik9000, plot holes galore, and inconsistencies, and just poor storytelling, with attempts at throwing in easter eggs to appease fans.
9 also seems clearly a condemnation of 8, at least in certain respects.
In an ideal world these films will get written off and a sequel reboot will happens telling the real continuation of the saga - I'd settle for someone waking up from a dream in order to write these three off. :D
But that's not likely to happen. So I'll just have to live off my own imagination, and other Star Wars EU stuff like games and other stand alone movies and series, that will hopefully be better.

Hang on... is The Rise of Skywalker actually Jedi of the Caribbean (but with way less charm)?
Good guy Rey Turner trains to fight bad guy pirates but comes to learn that she's actually born of a pirate herself - oh noes!
Meanwhile, Kylo Sparrow, is back and forth not knowing what he really wants - will he be a good guy, a bad guy?
The undead big baddy though, has an unstoppable army, but how can we reach him, no-one knows where to find his secret base!
Unless.... you've got a special compass that will lead you straight to the mysterious island!
Alright, let's have a face off with Turner and Sparrow up against the undead bad dude.
Yay, they win!
Now if only Sparrow had survived and sailed off on his ship...
Re: star wars last chapter: contains spoilers
A good observation Gallant! And boredom I went in rather hopeful and was therefore doubly annoyed but no preconception that I should hate it beforehand.
My thoughts:
1) wtf was the Harrison ford cameo all about?
2) the force, we are taught, is about balance. For the sith to die so should the Jedi. To push another film reference (Harry potter) "none shall die while the other live; for one to die the other most also...." So Rei should have died and stayed dead.
3) the Jedi have never been healers so where did this miracle cure come from that Rei can suddenly do, and how does kyloren suddenly learn how to do it?
4) how does kyloren even survive long enough to do it (I sense an outtake bonus content required there)
5) all the star destroyers have planet killing lasers now. Renders episode vii pointless no and why were they even trying to build a death Star again as clearly not required?
6) what happened to the dark Vader Helene talking breathing thing from VIII?
7) far far too many ships show up in the goodie armada at the end. Mass mobilisation of that scale in that little time? Pull the other one. And where had they all been hiding?
8) lando? Really?
9) why a compass obelisk to the sith world? Why not use the (bad) force?
10) what the heck was Jodie comer doing in there?
11) how come communicating via the force now allows everyone to interact and physically take things? Luke's projection in VIII was illusion only.
12) Leia trained as a Jedi then jacked it in because why now again?
13) wtf was the yellow light saber about at the end?
14) and why was she buying the other two?
15) Leia, having jacked in being a Jedi is suddenly able to be Yoda to Rei? Sure.... Right...
16) why would mr ginger suddenly become a spy and how did kyloren not detect this? How would ginger even make contact with the rebels to begin with? Why on earth would they trust him?
17) other Storm troopers also refused to fire on civilians despite Finn being told he was an anomaly to refuse to do so in vii?
18) I could go on but a door is banging and driving me insane. I'm off to trigger up some kind of damping...
Re: star wars last chapter: contains spoilers
Right, thinking about this some more: if the ginger guy spy knew where the bad guy fleet was why didn't he just tell the rebels how to get there given that he had got there himself? No need for silly obelisk.
And 20) if Rei has lightning powers why did she not use them or encounter then any other time? If she can choose not to then why is she so freaked out? A power that is mastered and controllable is surely only beneficial? If uncontrolled then it should surely have popped out at other times.
Re: star wars last chapter: contains spoilers
I was genuinely bored watching this film. Too much of this was recycled from the original films and yet it also seemed to spoil the ending of VI where Vader had his redemption for killing the evil Emperor Palpatine. That and Luke seemed to suddenly become hopeless (going against the previously established character we all loved) and Rey didn't need any training to become the most OP jedi...
Oh well
Re: star wars last chapter: contains spoilers
Yes, Palpatine miraculously coming back to life did not sit well with me. Also I agree ade10, although they did show Rey doing some running through the forest training, it hardly suggested it was enough to make her one of the most powerful Jedi of all time.
It would have been much better if the trilogy had all been done by the same director, so that it could have had a lot more continuity and a better flow to it.

Yup... Very slowly, in sheer embarrassment, back under the stone from whence it first emerged.
Re: star wars last chapter: contains spoilers
nah, it emerged from my mind and once out it can't go back in there.
