Might give it a listen but went off them a bit after the release of A matter of life and death and going to see that tour, I thought it was disappointing. Last time I went to see them was on the Somewhere Back in Time Tour which was brill.

Maybe I'm just getting too old for new music.

Maybe your tastes change, a bit like the way you grow into appreciating different foods and drinks later in life than when you're 17?

And a refreshing drink to go with the album:
    https://www.robinsonsbrewery.com/sho...sun-and-steel/

Looks like this could have been an early clue to the album. They're also using real Japanese hops.

    A video on it's creation:
    https://player.vimeo.com/video/419869414

I've had the original Trooper in the past, it is definitely a good strong punchy traditional beer! No marsh mellow, whipped cream nonsense I see everywhere nowadays.
Look forward to trying the rest of the range when I can finally drink alcohol again, I was unaware there's quite a collection now.

Don't waste your money buying the T-Shirt. Quality is awful. I saw Maiden on the Powerslave tour at Brum Odeon in New Street, still got the shirt and it's shrunk

I need to go somewhere quiet and feel old now.

Not a chance. Spent my 50th at an Airbourne gig

I get all my band Tees from EMP now as they use pre shrunk Gildan shirts. I got a Maiden Number of the Beast shirt for my birthday a few weeks back and its awesome, sizing is perfect and didn't shrink when washed.

The version with the SFX makes it even better I thought.

Album is out a week on Friday - so close now.

They have now also released Stratego which again sounds like classic Maiden

Re: Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden

What's everyone's thoughts on the rest of the album then? It's certainly a change of direction for Maiden (IMO) and very different to Book of Souls as the songs are definitely more prog metal. I really like it though - particularly Death of the Celts, Hell on Earth, Senjutsu and Writing on the Wall. Some of Adrian's solos are epic, and Bruce's voice still holds up incredibly well given his age and what he's been through health-wise.

I see quite a few people moaning in the YouTube comments sections that it doesn't sound like stuff they did in 1980. FFS, guess what - it's 2021, not 1980. Time moves on and stuff changes, deal with it! Maiden still sound awesome, in my opinion anyway

Re: Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden

I'm not a huge fan of this new album and think it doesn't hold up to well against the post 2000 era stuff and the 2 albums with Blaze. It does sound a bit more prog styled which isn't a genre I overly like barring a few bands like Queensryche (Operation Mindcrime is awesome) and a few others. I prefer stuff that is a bit more punchy and faster.

I love the first disc but the 3 songs clocking in at 34 minutes total closing out the album I don't like, it makes the latter half of the album really drawn out.

I think they should have mixed them in between the other songs so you have something a bit shorter and more punchy surrounding each long song but finishing with the song they have there already. At least they are trying to stay relevant as they cannot just keep the hardcore fans happy repeating stuff from the 80's & 90's.

Out of Senjutsu and Helloween's self titled album that came out mid June the Helloween album is the one I keep going back to and closing the album out with with the 12 minute Skyfall is awesome.

Interesting, I'll still be getting it but not until next month - I'm avoiding it on streaming 'til then

Haven't listened to Helloween for eons! Will have a listen to that at some point

Sounds like I also need to investigate this Operation Mindcrime album

Yes you do ! Think 1984 mixed with Dark City and the Matrix themes set to late 80’s Rock Opera and you are on the right path. Always to be listened to in one sitting - it’s one of those albums that never fails to deliver a sublime experience.

    Not a fan, myself.
I have a friend who is big into them, has all the albums, went to every gig he could manage, etc etc etc... He tried really hard to get me into them and lent me a stack of albums. I honestly went through each one at least twice, but not once was I taken by anything they did.

However, I still respect the standing they have, as they've definitely earned their place in the annals, and for those who are fans - I'm genuinely pleased for you.

Agree with you about the tracks, I've been listening to them every evening for the past week since I posted above. Rather than starting to cool on them, most of them are still growing on me with each listen. I just don't get the negativity at all. I mean, sure, I wouldn't say it's The Best Maiden Album Ever. But it's much, much closer to that end of the scale than the weaker end. I don't care if none of the tracks sound like Number of the Beast, The Trooper, ROTAM, etc. They sound fresh and damn good in their own right.
