Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden
Those that are into rock/metal no doubt will have been watching the reveal last night on Iron Maiden's Youtube channel. They have been trolling us with Bruce wearing Belshazzar's Feast T-Shirts with WOTW and a pyramid type structure showing up on posters at the limited number Download festival this year. Past week virtually all the Maiden albums artwork has had the pyramid and WOTW added to them.
Finally after 6 years we have new Maiden music and an EPIC video to go alongside it

Re: Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden
Great!
I've only ever seen them at Downpour 2016 but was completely worth the rain
Now it looks like I'm living for a bit longer I want try to see them next season if they're touring.
I met Nicko almost 20 years ago at a Guitar festival, he jumped on the drums, was one of the best experiences I'd ever witnessed. Sadly no footage as cameras were only cameras back then which also failed on the day.
I love watching and listening to Rock In RIO every now and again, when Bruce rejoined they had an explosion of energy
Re: Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden
I've only ever seen them once and that was at Sheffield during the Fear of the Dark tour before Bruce left and they were awesome. I did want to see them at Newcastle for the Legacy of the Beast tour but tickets sold out fast :(
Hoping to get to see them next tour though as if this track is anything to go by then the album will be amazing. I felt this track sounded more like their classic stuff and thinking Powerslave in particular

I bet that was a memorable occasion!

Yeah this is really promising, a lot of bands are fizzling out these days.
That said Megadeth are still good if you listen to them, although there's been a bit of unrest in the camp recently, hoping they get Jason Newsted on board as long as his health is good enough as Mustain isn't slowing down. They've at least stayed true to their roots much more than the others.
They were also at Download 2016 and were brilliant, I bought their Dystopia album as soon as I got home
Re: Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden
Funnily enough a mate of mine, Paul Hutchinson, has a folk duo called Belshazzars Feast :) He is rather amused by this :)
Re: Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden
I can't see Jason Newstead joining. They have had another bassist redo all Dave Eleffson's stuff on the new album they are working on after what happened. I do have Dystopia on CD & Vinyl as been into Megadeth for some time starting with Rust in Peace. For me Megadeth always keep the pace going with their stuff and there hasn't really been a bad album from them.
Some argue that No Prayer for the Dying is Maiden's worst but I have always enjoyed it and prefer it over Book of Souls
Re: Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden
We have an album cover, I think, or a single cover...

Yeah the more I've read it's pretty much certain Newsted isn't joining.

I've only ever heard songs here and there until I got Dystopia & saw them live, then I've been grabbing an album when I feel like a music splurge. Though turns out I bought a live DVD at some point thats still sealed so that will have to be put in the player soon.
Re: Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden
Interesting.
I like rock/metal but not heavily into it.
I was pi.... annoyed a few years ago when I got invited to a friend's birthday party. No, that didn't annoy me, per se. It was nice to be invited. What did was, firstly, not only that I couldn't make it, which was enough of a b.... downer, but then I found out that the 'band' that played the event was Hawkwind. Yeah, that Hawkwind. It turned out that he was one of their roadies for years, and a long-standing friend.
Damn. :(
Re: Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden
That is the album cover for Senjutsu - new album.
You can pre order it from today and it's out 21st September so not long at all
Re: Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden are one of the few bands I will instabuy whatever they put out. That's probably because Maiden were the first band I got into which wasn't my Dad's vinyl (that wasn't a bad introduction to music though - Cream, Genesis, ELP, Wishbone Ash (see? Maiden was inevitable!), Bowie, Alice Cooper to name a few).
Seen them live 4 times - Download 2007 then three times in Aberdeen (2011 - Final Frontier, 2017 - Book of Souls, 2018 - Legacy of the Beast). I always appreciated that they took the time to venture this far north. That time in 2018 was especially amusing to me as Aberdeen was their only Scottish date that tour - cue much grumbling from the central belt!
Liking the new track, only had a couple of listens and they were "while I'm working" listens - will get the nice headphones on tonight for a proper listen.
Re: Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden
It always makes me chuckle when heavy metal like IM get their references, title albums in this case, from biblical sources.
Anyone else doing a web search for "writing on the wall" get an article on Rashford's mural being graffitied?
Re: Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden
A lot of Maiden's early stuff and even pre Book of Souls has a war theme especially WW1&2 with tracks like The Trooper, Die with your Boots On, 2 Minutes to Midnight and Aces High. Then the albums themselves usually have a theme like Powerslave which has an Egyptian theme and includes tracks like Flight of Icarus & Rime of the Ancient Mariner (based on the Icarus story and then the story about shooting an Albatross when on a boat) and so on. There are a lot of themes running through the various albums by Maiden, even Metallica with their Ride the Lightning album has the awesome Creeping Death which is a song about the Biblical Plagues of Egypt.
Megadeth usually do songs on a theme also like Dystopia covers the affairs in society past few years, Rust in Peace which is late 80's covers nuclear war and cover ups (Hangar 18 & Area 51 etc) and Countdown to Extinction from early 90's a lot of it covers extinction of animals as well as corporations contributing top the pollution and so on

Flight of Icarus was on Piece of Mind, not Powerslave - wholly appropriate; bit of a crazy thing to do, flying with wings made of feathers and wax regardless of how close to the sun you go :)
Re: Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden
Ah yeah I typed that response without cross referencing the albums. Must admit I prefer Piece of Mind over Powerslave. The songs just seem to be better and you can't beat The Trooper. Powerslave I only really like Aces High and 2 Minutes to Midnight - these 2 would have been better on the previous Piece of Mind alongside The Trooper!

Re: Writing on the Wall - Iron Maiden
That is the one I have pre ordered from Amazon. I do love the Limited Edition version but at £93 just can't afford it.
The Book of Souls I have is in the same format as that and it looks and feels really high quality
