Its not so much i find the films scary, well they make you jump but that makes then kinda adictive. But when your sitting alone late at night, trying to get to sleep you start thinking about things like.. What if there is some horid monster outside, did i lock the door???

And that really gets on my nurves.

I don't think i've ever seen a 'supposedly' scary film I like. If you're not scared, they're rubbish.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

LOVE a good scary film, unfortunately there aren't very many out there...

Hideo Nakata's Ring worked for me, as my first introduction to the ever popular asian evil spirit with manky hair concept...and that disjointed, dislocated joints, movement she had going was perfect.

The Grudge - original version. Much the same as Ring, although let down by the 'gone mad with a spray can' black blob of a special effect.

Audition was just sick. Utterly sick. Kiri Kiri Kiri Kiri....messed up....not scary.

Event Horizon was promising, but whats-his-face out of Jurrasic Park hammed it up too much for me....the rest of the cast was perfect. Favourite bit, when they get to the command deck for the first time, with the lighting flashing and you see crusted human remains all around the walls...very well done...

Blair Witch Project. Love it or hate it (and I think it's brilliant) this is one of the most atmospheric movies ever made. I've seen it several times (although I missed it at the cinema, for which I'm glad...motion sickness anyone) and it's held me gripped till the end....

A Nightmare on Elm Street....A favourite from my days of youth. Very cheesy but still watchable.

American Werewolf in London....those scenes in the London Underground. Classic.

If anyone knows of any others, classics or otherwise, let me know, always on the lookout for a decent scare...

Didn't like The Grudge, just watching that bird crawl down the stairs had me lying in bed for ages at night trying to get to sleep... I also won't go up in the loft alone anymore!

I thought Saw was really good though, not scary in the slighest, just disturbing. That's more me. I don't like films that make me jump but I do like films that are disturbing.

I have yet to see a film I would describe as "scary", and I have yet to see a "horror" film I have not considered comedy.

I'm always scared at the thought of watching a film starring McCauley Caulkin.

Trippledence, could you de-huge your sig please. 450px max width

Oh, and scarey films rock, though if on my own I tend to do a sweep of the house before going to bed having watched one.

I've got a theory about horror films.
If you read, then you'll like the subtle ones (Ringu, The Eye etc.)
If you don't read, you'll like the Slasher ones (just about any US "Horror" movie)
I think it's cos of readers using their imagination to create horror, instead of having to be shown it.
I remember the hype around the original Exorcist movie, and watching it in the cinema being totally unmoved by it. The only bit that sticks in my memory is thinking "Oh, they've stuck the head on that dummy backwards" Then the famouse revolving head scene happens...

I watched "The Grudge" last night, made me jump so many times and I am normally okay with horror films, this is one not to watch on your own.

I went to see event horizon at the cinema when it came out, and yes I did poo myself, there was so much screaming coming from the audience it kinda made it worse. My m8 took this girl to see it, they had to leave half way through as it was too much. Nice first date!

For me there's a huge difference between being disturbed by a film, and being scared. I prefer the more subtle 'horror' films, such as Saw, The Grudge, Ringu etc, and tend to find the jumpy shock films quite boring. The only film that i think crossed the line quite well was the western remake of The Grudge, which i enjoyed immensely

Oh, and 'IT' still makes me want to collect all the clowns in one lorry and blast them into outerspace. Hate them.
    On your 'to do' list
