i`ll watch any kind of scary film they usually keep me more interested than any other kind of movie.
Western society has been brought up on a diet of Hollywood slash and gore horror, which might make you squeamish for a while, but nothing else.
I'm Chinese, and was brought up watching HK and Japanese horror, now these seriously mess with you mind. A lot of these don't show any gore at all, but the way the script is written and how it was shot, makes the audience hide behind their seats.....then go home and lose sleep over it. But it is good to Hollywood finally realising this 'factor' and 'trying' to film some of these.
Not my favourite, but once in a while I watch something quite scary.
And clowns are definitely quite evil.
Nope... i refuse to watch them
I think the last "scary" film (in my definition) was the Blair witch project, the day it was released on Halloween... that was years ago.
I don't like them at all.
I love the horror genre, have done since I was about 10 !
Few favourires are :
Evil Dead Trilogy (Must see films, 3rd installment was more a comedy though)
Alien & Aliens (Final 2 were a bit poor)
Texas Chansaw remake (Origional was great but a bit bizarre, very good remake though)
Saw (nuff said, especially the Directors Cut)
The Howling (Released for the first time ever on DVD last year after its initial 1981 release, one of the best werewolf films ever made)
The Thing (John Carpenter at his very best, never go to an abandoned arctic base ! )
Hellraiser 1 & 2 (First 2 the Cenobites were extremely menacing then it went downhill unfortunately after part 2)
Friday 13th parts 1 - 4 (Jason at his best, after part 4 it got a bit silly, not many people actually know that Jason is not the killer in the first part ! )
House (Another oldie that didnt get much recognition at the time, writer moves into an old house and really weird stuff starts coming out of his closet to get his son)
In the mouth of Madness (John Carpenter again, putting Sam Neil as a P.I looking for a missing writer. Had some serious H.P Lovecraft overtones and an ending that truely is bizarre)
American werewolf in London(Yet another astounding werewolf flick, unlike The Howling where the werewolves were stood upright like a person, in this one he looks like a huge ferocious mad dog, for its time this film has one of the best wolf changing scenes ever in cinema history)
Thats just a few of my all time favourites, I have seen some really good and also bad.
i loooooove scary wary boooooooo!
I havent seen any of them. I feel kinda cheated by my own winpish-ness.Originally Posted by Ferral
Ah well,
I was brought up on horror movies, always loved them. First one I ever seen was Carpenters The Thing then it was Alien, shortly after it was American Werewolf and the Evil Dead.
I think I have quite a good list there, you should try watching a few of them, you'll probably really enjoy them.
Second that list, weaned on good old splatter movies myself The Thing, Alien & Aliens are fantastically tense & edgy. Love the 'tonge-in-cheek' ones too like Puppetmaster, Nightmare on Elm Street (from 2 onwards), Evil Dead II, Slaughterhouse, Childsplay etc.
saw this film the other day, Dead Birds:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0377749/
found it pretty scary!
The Grudge: I've never been so freaked out by a film since being way too young to watch Predator. My mum got me the DVD, thinking it was a nice idea for a present seeing as I went on so much about how freaked out I was!! I can't even make it past the DVD menu!
I love scary movies. . . only when I'm with my girlfriend

I agree that Japanese films, and Korean films can be disturbing, like Oldboy! But the most disturbing scene that I remember was (spoiler alert), Charlotte Gainsberg's character self inflicted cliterodetomy in Antichrist, by Lars Von Trier. Although I'm still trying to forget that scene. I generally enjoy horror films, even the old ones like Hitchcock made, where we see little, using imagination and sound/music!
