Question Help me find that documentary about flight

I remember seeing this a few years ago on UK freeview (so I guess that must help narrow it down), although I can't remember whether Beeb, ITV, Ch4 or 5...

An interesting documentary covering flight and the space race. It does feature Nazi's Bell and the Fly trap and talks about nuclear-powered space craft, and also talks about UFO citings and whether a convenient cover up for US black projects, defection of Nazi German scientists to the States...

I seem to remember it's narrated by a British chap, was probably about an hour long.

I've searched everywhere on youtube but can only find American docs that hover around the subject but not the actual one I'm looking for.

Does that ring any bells with anyone (multiple puns not intended!)?

    'Space Race'?

It's a well covered area, so the more specific you can be the better..

Sounds like something the BBC would do and I vaguely remember seeing something like that.

It might have been part of the (very) long running "Horizon" documentaries. There is a guide to the episodes here...

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...rizon_episodes

If you watched on Freeview, that narrows it down to the last 10 years or so (although it may have been made before that and you saw it as a repeat)

Re: Help me find that documentary about flight

I know, TP, I can only remember bits of it.

    Oooh good call, Peter Thanks!

It was freeview. The other reason I was thinking British rather than american was that there was some footage of the researcher in the field, it wasn't just a typical voiceover commentary.

I can remember images of it, a few "reconstructions" but not that many. It was mainly based on documeted evidence. In addition to the fly trap / Bell experiments, they covered the aspect of nuclear-powered craft which would be propelled by mini nuclear explosions underneath it. But the issue was the radiation, weight added by the necessary shielding plate. There were videos of the trials too (although not nuclear I think).

I can't recall for the life of me whether there were breaks in it (ITV, C4, C5) or not (BBC). But Horizon sounds like a good suggestion although scanning through the Wikipedia list initially hasn't shown it up.
