In a word, beautiful!
Stunning cinamatography, vibrant colours, superb choreograpy, touchingly tragic love story. From the makers of Crouching Tiger.
Anyone else seen it yet?
Yeah, thought it was good, not seen crouching tiger tho so mite have to watch that now...
Yup, that and "Hero" are very good![]()

Hero was good. Flying Daggers is not good enough to be compared to it.
Good cinematography, stunts, effects and all that. The story had potential too. But it did not come together all that great.
I think HoFD suffered because of Anita Mui's death. She was supposed to play the leader of the Flying Daggers, but her part was written out after her death as a mark of repect.
However the movie has 4 things going for it
1. The Echo Dance scene
2. The Bamboo Forest scene
3. The beauty of the cinematography and...
4. Zhang Ziyi
really enjoyed hero, havn't seen this yet though, is it worth the watch for someone who didn't enjoy crouching tiger?
I've still yet to see this... It looks good (always my sorta film) my girlfriend (who's from china) thinks these movies (crouching tiger, hero etc) are pure junk and suitable only for western audiences![]()

I think that opinion is actually common in China because I knew a Chinese postgrad who said more or less the same thing when he saw me watching the Crouching Tiger DVD and said mainland China doesn't like these kind of films much. I can understand that point of view, but how do you expect these films to be successful if they're not popular in their own native country?Originally Posted by Gipo

Personally, I thought that it was ok but as has been said the second half was weak. It also left you feeling as if you'd missed something i.e. a section of the film. Though this was most probably due to Anita Mui's part being written out due to her untimely death.
In any case, neither this, Hero or CTHD are a patch on "The Warrior" which is a Korean film of the same genre.
If it ain't broke, fetch a bigger hammer
Ah yes, the warrior is an awesome movie! No flying and strange things (iirc) just pure bash and slash fest![]()
