    Kingdom of Heaven

I decided to go see this with a m8 last night since I knew it was a Ridley Scott film and I thought if it was reminiscent of Gladiator then it's probably worth a watch. Empire gave it 3 stars and imdb's was 7.3/10 which are decent ratings, so as far as I was concerned I thought the film was a go. When I got to Odeon I was shocked to find that the ticket price was 7.50 quid. I was wondering when did Odeon start charging such extortionate prices and I was regretting that I'd lost my NUS card . Anyway back to the film, it started off promisingly and seem gladiatoresque in its direction. However as the film progressed it seemed to degenerate in terms of character development and I found it hard to empathise with Bloom's character and to get into the story. The set pieces of action were impressive but I don't think they're on the same level as Gladiator's and the film just seemed to drag on a little with the action and I was getting bored. In the end I thought the film was ok but nothing special which is disappointing maybe because I expected too much from it. If you want something like Gladiator then don't go see this and I might be being harsh but it just didn't do it for me.

Before anyone points out this is a 2 year old topic; I KNOW

But I have just watched the directors cut through tonight and have to say that unlike most directors cut DVDs this is VERY much worth it - the film with an extra 50 minutes is so superior to the theatrical release.

anyone who was underwhelmed by the original release would be well served to watch the 'proper' version

It was one of those films I thought I might see, but never got round to it.

Is it worth the £15 or so that the directors cut is probably retailing for?

I bought the definitive DVD set recently and watched it. I thought it was overly long and most parts a yawn. There were some good sections and interesting history, but I think 3 out of 5 stars is about right.

Probably worth the £8 or so for the 4 disc set (I got mine from HMV) for the extras, but £15 - no way!

Have seen both the theatrical and director's cuts of this.

    Didn't like either of them...

I've only seen this on SkyHD and despite it being quite long, I really enjoyed it - so may try to hunt down the directors version... I thought it had a great story and just looked great.
