    shock,shock horror - scary film

    Hi All,

Me and Wildmonkey have just been having a discussion on what we think is the scariest film of all time

Think at the moment mine has to be the grudge.

Any other good ones people can think off?

The grudge? You must be joking! (but do you mean the original or the remake?)

Ok, maybe these are not that scarey now but at the time (when I was much younger) these films scared the pants off me...

    Children Of The Corn
    Texas Chainsaw (orginal)
    Invasion of the body snatchers
    The Ring (orginal jap version)
    Nightmare On Elm Street (orginal)
    IT
    Twilight Zone - The movie
The Thing (orginal black and white version)

I've been trying to educate Neo to the fact the the japanese versions of such films as "the ring" and "the grudge" are far superior than the multimillion dollar american versions.

They are Very Dark, Very Very dark indeed, maybe its the subtitles but there is definately something in the Jap version of the grudge thats not in the Yanky version.

they may be superior but if you have to watch it in subtitles it kind of ruins it in my opinion

The Thing - the remake - has got to be one of my favourites... but perhaps not the scariest ever.... The original Nightmare must come pretty high as well....

    Alien
    Quatermass
    Exorcist
    The Shining

    So many!

@ The Grudge! Whatever you do, don't watch any of the above film's!

But to be fair, The Grudge is probably one of the better 'modern' hollywood horror's I guess. But it scared me about as much as Sabrina - The Teenage Witch!

    Steven Seagal is a legend.
I wish he was my dad tbh.

For the best single scary moment I can remember in a scary film, it would have to be the cellar bit in Blair Witch, that got my heart pumping.

I'm not a great fan of the King/Carrie hand out of the ground...that's easy money scaring. A build up in tension to something that gets in your head is what I'm looking for.

Another one was Ringu with the scary girl and the TV, and the way she moves along the floor. Very similar to the ghost in the original grudge, like all the bones have been broken, but she's still moving. Very well done.

The Eye man!! That bit in the elevator. Top class...

I first saw the Japanese Ring on a VHS tape late at night on my own in the dark.
If my phone had rang at the end I'd have had a heart attack.
