I love it
I was worried they wouldn't be able to stand up to their last album and fall to the much touted second album syndrome. Granted they weren't everyones cup of tea last time around but if you had a soft spot for them with Permission you should love this!
They have taken a slightly different direction and gone a little experimental on a few tracks. Pan pipes, citars, bagpipes, violins and of course the return of Justins voice. Some of the stuff is just so far removed from the chart today and its so refreshing. Forget your Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party and Kaiser Chiefs - this is real rock! A lot of comparrisons are being made with Queen and although they aren't there yet the progression can be heard.
Highlights for me include English Country Garden, Hazel Eyes, Knocers and Is It Just Me?
I would say that the album is quite short however. At 35 minutes long a did feel a bit cheated at first, its a similar length to the first one but then they had the excuse that they pretty much recorded it themselves and then just tidied it up when they were signed. Now with their millions they should really be putting out something a little longer.
Short but very sweet. Anyone else heard it?
