    acoustic pub music

The singer of my band and me want to start a little side project of playing acoustic covers in pubs. Trying to get a list of songs together. It's just gonna be guitars and a singer for the moment. Any suggestions are welcome, what kinda stuff do you expect, and what would you like but never happens? We were at the pub tonight and they did an acoustic version of Teardrop by Massive Attack which was pretty obscure

    The list so far

    free falling - tom petty
    world so cold - mudvayne
    just boy - biffy
    some snow patrol song
    wonderwall - oasis
    patience - gnr
knockin on heavens door - bob
    nothing else matters - metallica
    tuesday's gone - lynrd skynrd
    fake plastic trees - radiohead
    wonderful tonight - eric clapton
    nothingman - pearl jam
    1979 - smashing pumpkins
    hurt - nin
time after time - cyndi lauper

I hope you're getting paid. With that amount of depressing songs, you'll be driving the crowd to compulsive drinking in no time.

Perhaps think of a few different ideas. Songs that you wouldn't expect to be done acoustically for example, or at least some more upbeat tunes that aren't about how awful your life is, etc.

they're not that depressing, but that's kinda why I'm asking for suggestions! Was thinking maybe a Girls Aloud song or Sugababes would be good If you could list a some more upbeat songs, it would be really helpfull

cheers guys, some great suggestions there - keep them coming

dont worry about stairway, I promised myself never to learn it when I started playing guitar. That was 10 years ago, and I still don't know it

You know that you have to have some Robbie Williams in that lot even if we all hate him.

Angel or Eternity are a must by rob.
maybe a bit of the spill canvas (its new and a little bit depressing but there are some nice songs that might work in a pub)
    Oasis: Songbird
Foo Fighters: Everlong, best of you etc
Beatles: Yesterday (if you want to kill them all) or Balckbird (love that song) and any other beatles
Whiskey in a jar - The older one not the Metallica Cover (if anyone knows the name of this song would like it if you could tell me)
Plain White T's - Hey There Deliliah (dont know the spelling of deliliah)
Brand New - First Day of my life

Dont know if they helped but thats the kind of stuff ive heard.

    Benji Boy
    GR|Church - CSS Legend

Whiskey in the Jar has been recorded By alot of people, the version that Metallica covered was by Thin Lizzy though.

Drop the Oasis (especially Wonderwall), i'm so sick of band covering this in pubs, as i am sure many other people are. It's become a bit of a Cliché IMO.

Most (pub) cover band always seem to do the same old tired stuff. Try and stand out with something a bit differnet if you can.

Otherwise a good selection, god luck mate

as mad as it sounds i knew a girl that used to do a wicked acoustic version of the sugababes - freak like me, everyone loved it.

agreed with dropping cliches like wonderwall and stairway to heaven.
