Do you pick and mix your songs or listen to an album, then the next album?
I prefer to pick and mix, but sometimes you just have to listen to a full album

I have a folder on my hard drive with loadsa albums, I right-click that folder, select 'Play in WinAMP', then choose random, et voila
As Forrest Gump once said, "Winamp random function is like a box of chocolates, you never know which one you're gonna get"
Have fair amount of music i like to listen to, around 2 days back to back play time so if i just left it on random on the whole thing i wouldnt really get much out of it I have the many many sounds split up in to around 40 - 50 different playlists which i choose from but they are alot of mixed songs, theres not many of the play lists with a full album from one band/group/DJ/what ever they wanna be called

Same for the iPod, I do it album by album as I have so much metal I keep hearing albums I forgot I had

Yeah, albums all the way. it irritates me when i'm going any distance with a particular friend in the car. she insists on changing CDs and skipping about all the time.
WMP11 Random shuffle for me
Got all my music on my backup drive as theres some rare live mixes from various clubs round the world.
I've got about 10 playlists (total playing time is roughly a week if I went and press play 24/7) in total ;
1) ALL MUSIC
2) House
3) Trance
4) Drum & Bass
5) Live Mixes
6) Mashup's aka 2 manj dj's that sort of stuff
7) Electro
8) Indie/Rock/Misc
9) 5 star rated
10) Cheesey stuff

Is that out yet? on WMP10 - the shuffle always goes to the same tracks everytime (not much of a random generator) and I've found in my large collection of music by doing this it skips out 60% of my other music....Originally Posted by Lee @ SCAN
Anyway back on topic, I listen to new albums in sequence then change to shuffle after its played a few times (especially on my small capacity mp3 player as I usually start humming along to the next song before it even starts... hmm.....)

I normally listen to a whole album, or most of it.
I have a main library list on Foobar2000, and then a playlisy I occasionally use to pick and mix. I generally prefer albums as a whole, as I have a fairly diverse music collection, and having it on random can mean some weird changes in style...
i.e. chillout > folk metal.
So yeah, albums all the way.
I'm prone to flicking through my songs when i'm listening to my iPod.. i often like to create playlists every few weeks with the songs that im liking at that time in.
Occasionally ill get the urge to listen to an album or artist, in which case i will.
I love the "shuffle songs" function on my iPod as well, the whole Forest Gump thing again
generally album by album. But i listent to the radio alot, so get a lot of random songs on there, which gives me ideas of the next albums to get - currently muse, eagles of death metal, wolfmother, and thievery corporation
