    Favourite Movie

    What is your favourite movie???

Need movie recommendations because I am bored with my collection and need to buy some more please no horror movies. I hate watching a scary movie in a dark room on my own with surround sound scares the s**t out of me.

Or movies that you recomend me not to buy?

    Thanks!

City of God .... If you haven't seen it because it doesn't look like 'your kind of film', or it's a foreign language film, or it's not of the genre action/comedy/sci-fi etc. then through all your preconceptions out the window and watch it anyway. Amazing cinematography, wonderful scripts, incredible locations, the most real characters you'll have seen in a long time (although not suprising since every cast member was actually cast from the slums....no professional actors).

    You won't regret it

Munich is my favourite at the minute. True story about the Olympic murders early seventies and about a secret organisation hired to get revenge. Daniel Craig (Layer Cake and the new James Bond) is the team leader in the assasinations.

This film keeps you hooked from start to finish, its very engrossing and demands watching from the moment it starts.

Also watched Battle Royale again last week, classic Japanese film. A class of unruly school kids are taken to an island and are given weapons. Last man standing wins their freedom. Subtitled but fantastic start to finish.

Ong Bak, Thai Kickboxing film about a stolen Budda from a small village. The most promising student (Tony Jaa) is sent into the big city to retrieve it. Story isn't very good but the action and fight scenes are amazing to say the least as no wires were used at all. Once again subtitled.

Shawshank Redemption for me I think, a great triumph over adversity film. And Close Encounters of the Third Kind (not all aliens are out to take over the world!). Schindlers List always reminds me of how brutal people can be.

I agree with the Shawshank Redemption. I also like Dangerous Minds, Space Jam and Braindead

Any of the Kevin Smith films (if you haven't seen them all or any already)

City of God is the defacto movie everyone has to see, so check it out. Other brazilian movies I've liked are O Homem do Ano and Carandiru - both enjoyable as the same scale as City of God I'd say.

Ooooh I forgot I though Finding Nemo was ace, and also Monsters Inc and Cars and Toy Story 1.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.

    The Lion King

Sense a theme there, I think they are the best of late.

Chasing Amy was utter garbage too, and so was Dogma . Mallrats and Jay and Silent Bob Stirke Back are pretty good.

I'll second Ong Bak and City of God, Shawshank of course is one of the best films ever but surely everyone has already seen it.

Office Space is fantastic cult comedy that hardly anyone has seen or heard of, so that's my recomendation

Oh and everyone rates Oldboy but the other two 'revenge' films are IMO much better; Sympathy for Mr Vengeance and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. Rubbish names, excellent excellent films, and both very different.
