Classical concerts?
I want to go to a classical concert! I'm a huge fan of film scores and would love to see one of the composers live. My brother in law went to a John Barry concert a few years back which he said was fantastic.
My question is this, where should I look to find out about classical concerts? How do I know who is performing and more importantly, when and where?

your local concert hall should have information on this, or any concert halls in your area.
up here we've got the RSNO who play all the time in the concert hall in glasgow, ive seen star wars performed by them, and indiana jones, was amazing:D

Concert Halls eh? Hmmm. So who knows the main concert halls in the West Midlands area? :p
I wouldn't even mind travelling to London or elsewhere, could make a whole day of it providing the concert was a 'big one'.

Hmm, lets see. You have Symphony Hall to start with, home of CBSO, there are dozens of concerts on every month! http://www.necgroup.co.uk/visitor/wh...tsOn.asp?v=SYM
I visit 4 maybe 5 times a year and I enjoy it every time.

Parm london has a lot of very good classical music going on, a lot of it is ludicrusly expensive and requires dressing up 'properly'.
Some are a nice middle ground, fairly cheap (£10-15 ticket) you won't feel under dressed whering a suite (no need for tails!).
Some are just one up from student bands rehersals.
I've noticed that London Paper and London Lite often have a few interesting events listed, but thats not much use enless you read it most days.
There are of course some great things done by the beeb, which as such are very easy to find out about, but getting a royal albert hall ticket for the last night off the proms is rather difficult (thou been a hooraay henry is something i feal i must do at least once).
But during the proms season there are some very good perfomances, very easy to find out about too :)

I quite like going to mini-concerts, like lunchtime concerts often held in churches. Good tasters, without being too filling of a sound that isn't quite so familiar.
Lastminute.com often have really cheap deals - although not near me, ticketmaster seem to be 100% controlling everything.
Regarding the Proms - the Blue Peter prom, meant for kids, always contains a good variety.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I don't mind dressing up 'properly' for one either, I think that'd add to the fun.
My brother was telling me that Ennio Morricone is playing in the UK sometime soon, I'm trying to find out about that but he didn't have any other details.
