    Mac and PC link?

    Hi,

I recently took out the Orange broadband wireless package, as it cut costs hugely for me, combining it with the phone deal!

I'm buying a new comp and torn between PC and Mac ... but was chatting to a friend who suggested having a Mac and PC using the Livebox (Orange wireless box) was not going to happen ... something to do with access codes????

He claims if I got a Mac Book then it wouldn't be able to use the same box as a PC as it'd need reconfigured.

I'm NOT a comp guru so any help would be useful! Cheers!

Are we talking about wireless connectivity here, then there should be no problem.

I did a good bit of digging, and found http://www.transcience.freeserve.co....-wireless.html this gold mine! Step by step guide to getting it running wirelessly with you Mac and PC.

    Enjoy!

PCs and Macs use the same network technology.....TCP/IP.

Both can connect to wireless and ethernet networks.

Macs can even browse your Windows shares.

Windows can browse Mac aliases as well if you configure SMB, its a lot trickier for Windows to see Mac but still easily enough to setup.

Yes, this is true, but if you go and read the link that I spent ages finding - you will see that it is much trickier with the wanadoo/orange hardware
