any news on upload speed and ratio?
Yeah upload is the area which needs improving now... I'm sure there are useful ways to max out a 10MB connection, but uploading photos/files is a PITA even on the fastest connections
**** yes .
I hope we get invaded by S. Korea, then we can get some seriously fast speeds .
Ive gone to 4meg since moving from ADSL to Virgin, and I struggle to max it out, bar the odd download.
20Meg is insane. I would rather have a better upload than more download at the moment.
When you consider that my photos are over 2meg each, and I can fill the 2gig SD card in it with photos and film in one night, it takes forever to put on my server
Yeah I'd love to have 1MB upload minimum... half the download speed would be ideal. I know one of the main reasons is to stop people running servers off home connections, but surely there is a way around this? Blocking specific ports or services?

Well if this is correct... it used to be because the Main links from america to europe stop off at the UK... so our upload limits are capped to hell to not stall anything too much. Considering the speeds these days i doubt it has much to do with it now.

The transatlantic links are STM 64 / OC 192 and were upgraded a few years ago. The problem with cable upload speeds is the the actual upstream banwidth available while using the Current DOCSIS standard, the QPSK transmission medium used would be toatlly crippled at much higher upload speeds than are currently available. The good news is that Virgin are invesigating using QAM16 on the upstream which would add a fair bit more bandwidth.
Beer is life, life is good!
Jamin, I have absolutely no idea what you just said mate, but it sounds like Virgin are gunna improve things. Woo
I know whats his talking about, mostly... i also noticed a key fact in his public profile ^^
Might have something to do with it
so what he is saying is that the gubbins that gives us our download speeds is more advanced than the gubbins that give us our upload speed?
I know that they are totally separate parts of the network so I think the above is correct.

I wonder if the little blue cable modems can handle the speed...

I dont care if they offer upto* 1000Mb, at the minute my 10Mb is crap and theres rumours abound of there throttling the 10Mb customers during peak times so until I get back my 10Mb they can stick there "plans" where the sun doesnt shine..
And I dont mean under their pillows....
