surge protectors that work well with DSL Max?

I put the question to my ISP but they couldn't help

    Can anyone advise?
After losing a dial-up modem to a lightning strike on my phone line 5 years ago I purchased a Belkin surgemaster with telecom protection (both POTS and Ethernet)

Now I know that DSL Max is susceptable to line length (both from the exchange and to the Customer Premises equipment i.e. my router)

I currently have the RJ-11 patch lead plugged into my wall socket and into the surge and then the microfilter plugged into the other RJ-11 and then onto my router as I'm not particularly keen on the idea of linking it directly to the socket, thereby exposing it to unfiltered current.

Do you know of any surge protectors that are known to work particularly well with DSL Max or can you make any other suggestions?

I bought a Belkin 4-Socket SurgeMaster with Telephone Protection Twinpack from Amazon (currently listed at £12.16) and have my equipment routed through that.

I have a 5Mb ADSL Max connection (about average for my area) and I've not experienced any problems with it.

I have tried to plug my microfilter directly into the phone socket to see if the stability improves and I now have the ethernet routed through the surgemaster though am not particularly happy with linking anything directly to BT.

I have the phone line routed through my Surgemaster so both the router's power and the ADSL phone line are protected.

I don't have any protection on my ethernet cables.

I remember my previous ISP telling me that according to BT my exchange had a red status meaning that they were running out of virtual circuits and that during peak times there maybe contention issuesm which would explain the time when it destablises.

An upgrade was scheduled for Feb and due to be completed in March (but of course this is our 'former' state monopoly so who knows)

Might ask Newnet to follow it up for me as they seem to have excellent technical staff and it works brilliantly from their end at least.

Its always BT that botch stuff like when I first switched to Max and was offline for a week while they fixed a line card problem.

If I could afford a fibre connection directly to the ISP I would as DSL is crap.

    Thanks for your help abeacock
