    Router Trouble?!

    Hi,

Right here goes nothing! My netgear dt834gt had got to the junk yard in the sky and I got hold of a Philips SNA6500 router. Configured the lot, usual settings etc and I get Connected. It must be connected as it has pulled my IP address down from the ISP......

    However.

It says connected but it wont let me browse on any browser!

Does anyone know what this might be?

    Cheers in advance!

Use `ipconfig /all' to get a detailed listing of your DHCP parameters, make sure DNS is filled in, sometimes the windows DHCP client acts goofy with some dhcp services.

Open run and try to "ping bbc.co.uk"

If you get destination host unreachable, then go on the router and set the DNS servers to "obtain automatically from ISP". Then go to the TCP/IP configuration for your network adaptor and set DNS server to automatic.

Ive changed the DNS servers in the router to pick them up automatically which they successfully do as they are listed on ADSL status.

TCPIP is already set that way.

    This is really puzzling me!

    Sorry if this is obvious-

But have you checked the connection settings in IE and FF? They may be set to use a proxy server, odd ports, etc. I'm assuming your router is doing NAT on the internet connection as you were able to ping a website. Also you may want to try disabling firewalls, etc.

I've spent many an hour trying to tweak settings only to realise that I forgot to turn off/reconfigure the firewall and there's nothing that makes you feel quite as stupid.

    Hope this helps.

    Bit of an update:

Tried new router, worked first time, would you say that the other router is faulty?

Not easy to say. Would you be able to post your settings for your PC and Phillips Router here - in particular any DNS and LAN IP settings for both devices. You could always reset the router and change these settings to those of your shiny new router and see if that works.

I take it you are connecting with a wired connection also and not wireless AP?

I took it back and they claimed they would have to test it on their line. However it was down so a full refund was issued! the sort of luck I relish!
