    VPN and Netgear queries

    Hi

Never setup VPN before but playing with the idea of a Netgear DG834 at remote location and trying to access a network connected to it using VNC over this connection via internet. I read literature on the router with latest firmware and it can act as VPN endpoint. Any step-by-step guides please?

Also trying to connect with Linux but don't run before walking eh.

Sounds stupid also but what is the username password combo asked for in Windows VPN client also?

    Thanks

You will need to make sure that your ISP can give you a static IP address first, as you need that before you can use a VPN iirc.

Unless I'm much mistaken you need to use the Netgear VPN client to make use of this facility. And even if you didn't have a static IP the DG834 has a built in DynDNS client, so you could connect using hostname.

How would the hostname be configured - by registering with hosting company?

Thinking perhaps of connecting a smoothie firewall to netgear router as don't have the Netgear VPN client.
