    Sky broadband and WoW ...?

    Hello guys.

Ok, so I have a "upto" 16MB Sky broadband connection.

Right now a speed test says I'm connected at around 6MB, I can download at about 1200KB/s from a good server.

Now here is the problem - on WoW as soon as I play it starts off saying that I have "0 latency"

2 mins later it will jump up to about 3000 latency, when I should have around 100 - 200.

Ofcourse 3000 latency is really bad, and I find it really hard to play the game, so damn laggy!

I've scanned my PC for viruses and spyware and it picked nothing up...

I've posted on the Blizzard forums but no body has helped me yet...

I just want to get rid of this problem so I can play WoW again.

At night my latency usually goes fine at around 100, this high latency problem in the day has been occuring for about 3 weeks now....

Can any one give me any advice on what could be causing the problem?

    Thanks.

Hmm - you seem to be getting packet loss within Telia, which you can't really do much about. The routing within Easynet is reasonable however you could try resetting your router to see if you can get a different gateway, which may well change your routing.

reset the router and then run a tracert again - if the first hop from your router isn't cr1.wmstk.uk.easynet.net then you might have a bit of luck, but ideally you're looking for it to not have those * in the hops (until you get the request timed out bit anyways) and also not massive jumps in the numbers of ms. I'll try to run a test to compare when I get home from work.

Also as adam1701 mentions it might be an idea to blank your ip out, though quite why he needed to quote your entire post I'm not so sure...

This shows my ISP peering directly with Telia, whereas yours routes through Cogent. Also you are stil connecting through the same gateway (I'll be honest, I know nothing about Easynet's network but I'm assuming they have multiple gateways for redundancy) but at least you're not getting packet loss.

I'd try another few reboots and see if you can get a different gateway and see how your gaming goes then, but Sky Broadband's customer service does NOT get a good press (the sole reason I have not jumped ship despite getting confirmation that I can now get the Max and Pro packages.)

Also looking at the first post - you blanked the IP of the 4th hop, which should be in no circumstances your ip address. If it is then there's some SERIOUSLY wonky routing going on.

I didn't blank the ip of the 4th hop out? :s

Did it do it automaticly? I'm not good with this sort of stuff.

Never mind, I was being an r-tard and reading the quoted text, not your post...

Out of interest would you by any chance be using a wireless connection?

    Hehe no problem.

I've just reset my router 3 times straight and I still don't get a good latency.

As for my router, my brother shares my internet connection wirelessly. I've tried disabling the wireless but there is no change .

Blows that theory out of the water then...

Can you run a continuous ping to your router while you play and see if you have any packet loss/latency?
